Now that I have come down off that amazing high a little bit (not a lot ;D ;D but enough to be lucid...I hope) I am seriously thrilled for Marat. The first two or three games excluded, he was in total control of that match. The drop shot that he played on set point in the first...exquisite. The attempted diving volley...proof (as if we needed it) of how badly he wanted to win this match. The fist pump after closing it out...just one of those priceless moments. Our boy is back and he's been waiting and working and wanting this for so long..and now he has got it. I am extrememly proud and happy, of him and for him. And i know that I am not the only one. There are so many people here that have continued to have faith in him, no matter what was going on. Regardless of how he was playing, or what number ranking he was, or how long he was injured. And tonight he has repaid that faith as well as anyone could ask him to. I for one could not be happier. As for Kolya in the final, well obviously that will be a tough match. Kolya is playing very well indeed. But the tennis Marat has shown this week and as important if not more so, the drive and the determination, mean that Kolya isn't exactly sleeping easy either. Marat CAN win this title. For the moment though, I am just savoring today's win. ( i hope that Marat is taking the time to do likewise We can worry about the rest tomorrow. And since Marat has a thing with Italians this week...let me say Complimenti, Marat, davvero. ;D

Here are the reactions of Davydenko and Marat after their matches :
Davydenko: "It was easy, 6-4, 6-1, but in the first set I still made too many mistakes and it was 3-1 for him at the beginning."
On the final: "Safin is the guy that always plays 100% against the other Russians, he will try to play his perfect tennis. It will be an interesting final both for me and all Russia."
[glow=red,2,300]Safin: [/glow]"I am still trying to find my game this week but I am happy twice as I reached my first final of 2006 and my first final in Moscow. I had been waiting for this moment for such a long time. [Davydenko] is a solid Top 10 player and did not drop a set all week. I will have to fight hard to win. I am not at my best so he's the favoruite for the final."

Well done big man. ;D So, Davy is going to try and counterpunch you out of a rally. Keep the heid and don't rush it! Stay calm - and don't break too many racquets! Maybe a few serve and volleys and the odd dropshot would do no harm in the game. Mix it. And if that doesn't work, grind him down in a rally from the baseline. What am I doing? Giving the boy tips? I'm an eejit. He knows what to do. I'd put my money on the big yin in a rally though, fit as Davy is. PS How can you cope with this one Annie? Another PS In his lonely, lonely flat surrounded by unwashed jockstraps and a toilet that doesn't work, do you think Marat has worked out how to cook the gratin yet?

And another thing ... "I am not at my best so he's the favouriite for the final." Get this bloody nonsense out of yer heid! That's giving him a couple of games for starters.
