well the tour is so demanding. i not really surprised loads have pulled out. i know but there are other tournaments they can withdraw from.... here we're talking about TMS! they keep saying tennis isn't well promoted around the world, they blame the ATP for that (which i understand) but do they think they help promoting the game by skipping the major tourneys? next year they'll avoid Grand Slams pretending the schedule is too tough Thinking that they can withdraw from those tourneys without giving a reason, just because they're already qualified for Houston is pathetic..... and very arrogant! And Roddick with this lame DC final excuse! i've never heard that before! like he won't be able to play well if he plays in the last 2 TMS of the season before! listen to me you big idiot: how do you think players from other countries did in the past years, uhh? Sorry guys (btw Roisin, i'm mad at them, not you, don't be scared ;D), but this attitude drives me crazy. With all the money they get to play tennis, they should be ashamed to act this way and scorn officials, medias....and most important : fans.

Madrid is doing away with ball boys? My Tennis-X newsletter says Madrid will have 19-27 year-old fashion models for ball boys. They are learning about the game, what a set is, what a game is, and what an ace is. And " their " coach is hoping they won't break-up the rhythm of the players' game. Sure they won't. I thought this has to be a joke but got an email from tennis-x saying it is true. This tournament will be interesting to say the least.

yeah it's been reported everywhere. mtf's buzzing about it. bad idea IMO. the models will just disrupt the pace of the game i think, in terms of retrieving the ball, tossing and stuff like that.

I agree, bad idea. I think they will slow down the games and more than likely none have ever thrown a ball before. Not good for the players' focus either. Just a bad idea all the way around.

What?? What a stupid idea !!! Why they want models to be the ball boys? I don't get it . They will definitely make a lot of confusion there!!

This tournament is just too important for this kind of nonsense. Couldn't they have done this at a smaller tourny? It probably will be a disaster and a big distraction to everyone. We need to put some blinders on Marat. You need points Marat not a model. FOCUS.

i read that story too, and i agree with everyone here, it is a very stupid idea. Chris i think they're doing it for the exact reason you mentioned: get more TV viewers.... but to be honest i'm glad i don't have a tv coverage of the tourney, cuz even thinking of those models smiling at the camera like stupid, standing behind the baseline and just being pretty ......well, ya know.... And erm, i hope they'll be eficient doing ballboys job, cuz otherwise it will be so awful to watch We need to put some blinders on Marat. You need points Marat not a model. FOCUS. ROTFL ;D

This is just yet another thing proving tennis is run by men When will the sexy male models appear during womens tennis matches?! Probably never, because men would never think of that. Mens tennis doesn't have sex appeal for men, so they need to get women into it somewhere....because they seem to forget that women watch mens tennis as well, not just men! But they would probably say male models in womens tennis would be 'a degrading, sexist distraction'........ It's just yet another silly gimmick aimed at men who need real girlfriends not magazine centrefolds ;D

LOL Ruth well said. I keep hoping this whole 'thing' is a joke, but guess not. How on earth do they expect the guys to be focused? Whatever..........as long as Marat wins I could care less who they bring in as 'ball boys' 'ball bimbos' 'ball girls' 'ball Hugo Boss Models' whatever As someone said, surely not just this tournament but men's tennis is to serious for this? They made such a big deal of Marat and his AO box back then, but look at what the ATP has stooped too? LOL its too much And as Ruth says, they would not do similar for the WTA because they do not have to, most guys watch the WTA NOT because they are interested in tennis, but because they like looking at the girls!! If they want to watch tennis they watch they men's Its so pathetic, its laughable
