Quotes from Jamesy:
Blake said he expected a tough battle against the Russian in Saturday's semi-final. Their record stands at two wins each.
"I don't expect Marat to be intimidated by the situation," he said.
"He's been there before. Marat can hurt you from the baseline. Our matches always seem to have a tiebreak or two and we'll see who has adjusted better to the hard courts after last week on clay."
Note: their head to head is not two matches each; it's actually 2-1 in favor of Marat. I didn't think the Davis Cup match counted, but I guess it counts as a result...can't treat it like it never happened, unfortunately. Also, thanks for the welcoming greetings!

Hi, Sonya. I do have a bigger version: I think it's from Bangkok last year...or the year before. The last time he played there, whenever that was. I can't take credit for it, however; the link with the photo was posted by Pui at Safinator (another board I like to frequent).

More from Thailand: Russia's Marat Safin was mightily relieved to come through a demanding three-set encounter against German qualifier Mischa Zverev yesterday to make the semi-finals of the Thailand Open. ''He was difficult to play as he had nothing to lose,'' Safin said. ''He was serving well with good volleys and he hardly made any mistakes. ''I'm fighting, I'm doing things right on the court, I'm still making mistakes but I'm still there,'' he said. ''If I continue this way I will have the opportunity to win tournaments again. I have to wait and see.'' Safin thanked the crowd for their support. ''I like people shouting my name and it is great for the Thai fans to support me,'' he said. Safin will face James Blake in today's semi-final, just a week after they met in the Davis Cup in Moscow. ''I lost to him last week but it was a close match. I beat him in Australia and Washington so anything can happen.'' The whole article can be read here: www.bangkokpost.com/Sports/30Sep2006_sport42.php

Thanks Marie!! :)And that is a lovely pic you have for you avatar. As for this match against Blake. The record books might count the Davis Cup match for last week but we all know Marat wasn't taking it that seriously. Blake probably wasn't either to be fair. But big matchs against big players seem to be Marat's poison of choice. I think he will be incredibly focused and give it his best. I'm not greedy. That is all I ask for. Of course if you want to be particular i'd like him to give it his best and win, and even more particular, his best and win AND spare me a nervous breakdown. I'll even settle for him winning and playing less than his best. To be honest when it comes to Marat...I am really too easy. We are talking about a man who can make five women swoon with barely two words (isn't that right Annie) ;D ;D

Thanks for the comment about my avatar! But again, can't take credit for Marat looking as good as he does...we all have to thank the genes that were passed down to him, haha. I agree that as long as he wins, I don't care how poorly he plays. I mean, the great, classic, high quality matches are what people love, but it says something about the player when he/she plays poorly and yet still manages to earn the W.
How about that Zverev kid, though? He gave Marat a tough time and took out Juan Carlos (another favorite of mine!) in the first round. Maybe we'll be hearing more from him in the future.
Oh, Pau...I love your sig. I'm a big fan of The Beatles.

That Zverev was about to get a hiding off me. I would have kicked him all the way back to Germany if he had beat Marat today. *does her best to surpress violent impulses*
But yeah, as you say, it is interesting to see some new faces every now and again.
You make a good point about playing badly and winning though. As great as he played against Fed in AO 2005 semi...I have to say it was the match against Rochus that impressed me most.

Yesterday made me exhuasted, for both Marat and Tim match. Coz' Marat played at center court, so there're many pics of him. Today I have only a short and shake clip for you at www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqFlbhmARys (Sorry, the quality in youtube isn't good as original you can download at www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqFlbhmARys the link is available for 7 day from now.) Marat walked so fast and maybe I was excited, so my camera shake like earthquake. But I still want to show you his smile. ;D BTW I can't rotate the clip, if you know how, please tell me, then we don't have to turn our head to watch it.

- from Page 5 that edible asked about the guy beside Srichaphan, his name is Danai U-domchoke, thailand No.2. He lost to Ginepri in 2nd round. - For the word "LOVE KING", this year is "The sixtieth Anniversary of His Majesty's Accession to the Thorne ( www.60thcelebrations.com/english/index.php ), longest than any Kind in the World's History. Every Thai love the King so much and want to express it, also Srichaphan. Sorry for late reply.
