*sigh*  couldn't watch it tho cause they showed Rafa's match. is marat's only weakness his consistency then cause he has the potential to hit some great shots.. Fed vs. Murray should be good  |

oh,well  ...i want to believe to bia about his game improving,cause i haven't seen enough matches to see that on my own  .. i agree with carol that he looks like getting tired very easily,but i think it just has something to do with the heat,getting bored & his nerves ! and he looks a bit thiner,but i think that could be a good thing  ,unless he's losing his weight cause he's unhappy & not eating enough .. as for the safinalium-does it help when you're stuck in the drooling thread,drowning in your own drool,amazed with his hotness ? Well something occured to me the other day right. If Marat has bothered to bust his butt, working hard to come back to tennis at all after the knee injury, then he must have decided that it was worth it. That he WANTED to keep playing. And let's face it this is Marat, if he thought that he'd come back and only play crappy tennis for the rest of his life he would be on that dacha somewhere with a kid in one hand and a Tsing Tao in the other by now. Instead of that he's on the tour, improving the quality of his game slowly but surely. And if he's stuck with it this far, then he may as well see the thing through. I agree with Sonja that he has lost weight. Although from seein him in DC, i'm thinking maybe its not so much weight as muscle tone (but what do i know) in any case there is an obvious difference between now and five months ago at Roland. So basically my point is, Marat has (for now at least) decided not to give up on tennis so tennis should not give up on him. I wont even talk about the fans here on this board cause I know that none of us would ever give up on him or stop believing in him....we love him to much for that... And let's not forget the number one rule of the Marat Safin fans charter: Expect the unexpected... Marat is completely capable of losing matches like the ones v Robredo and Monfils and then kicking everyone's butt at the US Open...you just never know with him |

It's quite interesting to look at the match statistics. Monfils' numbers are the ones in brackets: 1st serve in 62% (45%) Points won on 1st serve 85% (74%) Points won on 2nd serve 60% (59%) Receiving points won 35% (25%) Double faults 1 (5) Break conversions 0/7 (2/3) Total points won 69 (68) He actually scored more points than Monfils but still lost!!!! Well, that give a bit of hope, apparently he played anything but badly. I tried to download the ATP video but the Safin-Monfils match is the only one that doesn't work  I hope they fix their site soon. |

... and BTW, Gael just lost to Marcos Baghdatis. That's what he deserved for beating Marat Juan Carlos Ferrero is about to beat James Blake, that's a bit of a surprise. Good job, JCF! |

Those are some pretty decent stats..but then we all know number of points won doesn't mean too much...remember AO 205 semi..Roger actually won more points but Marat went to the final and look how well that turned out....
the important thing is that his game seems to be getting better...lack of results not withstanding...

ok i am very late to say i am disappointed that Marat lost, but i think i will leave it like that n hope for better things in the USO - you got to remember now that marat has NO POINTS TO DEFEND AT ALL!! so the only way is UP!  ok so on a happ note....... *does a happy dance* MURRAY WON MURRAY WON MURRAY WON!!! ;D ;D ;D i am really sorry Annie, but ANDY BEAT ROGER!!! i was watching live scores n i couldnt believe what was happening - and in STARIGH SETS!!! OMG what a great match! I knew Andy could beat Federer. I'd seen him play for the first time at Wimbledon and imediately thought that he's definitely someone to watch, and that he has potential to be on e of the great players. *beams more* I'm so glad to see him improving and to have him take down world's #1 player!
