Its been a while since I stopped by, but just wanted to say Welcome to all our Newbies, its great to have you all here an di hope you will enjoy and be a part of our community for a long time!, and to say a really BIG THANK YOU to all our wonderful Web Monkeys for all the amazing photos and articles you all have been posting over the past couple of months, and of course to wish habibi the very best for his upcoming match with Gonzalez.

His attitude just rocks and we all know when Marat puts his mind to something he can do what he wants with it, and with this positive mind over matter approach, and the incredible support from all of you, I am confident Marat can get past his first match.

In any event I am just so happy to have a health, happy Marat back on the court and in the tennis world. Its not been an easy year for Marat, and his goal is still to be realised, but he will get there, the desire, and ambition is there and he will succeed ;D

Sharapova Hurt Again, Roddick’s Pain, Devilish Draws

Buddies Sharapova and Roddick are both dealing with bum ankles.
FROM ROLAND GARROS - Maria Sharapova re-injured her right ankle in practice on Friday at Roland Garros, went to the doctor and after three hours got the good news – no fracture. The very bad news is that despite requesting a Monday start, she was denied and now is scheduled to face Mashona Washington later on Sunday on Suzanne Lenglen. She’s not happy about it and there’s still a chance that she won’t play. Even if she does, she’s going to have a hard time moving and could have used another day to heal. The tournament is taking a huge risk here by asking one of the tour’s top draws to play hurt, as Washington could counterpunch her out in the first round. But its clear that the French Tennis Federation wants to put on a very good show on its inaugural “First Sunday” of this now 15 day event.

Top seeds Roger Federer and Amelie Mauresmo are both scheduled to play on Court Philippe Chatrier on Sunday, although Federer won’t be facing Arnaud Clement, who withdrew with a groin injury he sustained playing soccer… So Fed gets Argentine qualifier Diego Hartfield, who I don’t believe is the real McCoy…Andy Roddick’s ankle still hurts a good deal but he is probable to face Alberto Martin on Monday. However, he’s not probable to win that match, as the veteran Spaniard will get a ton of balls back and really test the American's movement. But if you want even a tougher draw, look no further than Roddick’s buddy James Blake, who will likely face red-hot Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in round two. Blake has to get past Paradorn first, but he should be able to outlast the Thai. But beating Almagro over the long haul will be a much tougher task. …The other US men are likely ready to wave goodbye early. It’s hard to see Robby Ginepri beating Alberto Montanes. Paul Goldstein and Justin Gimelstob will both face Latin Americans, but one is a lucky loser and the other is a qualifer.
Vince Spadea must be rapping up a storm after finding out that he’s facing the super steady Nicolay Davydenko (who just won Poertschach) in the first round. Something like:
“I got Davydenko
Blonde like Kirilenko
Not as cute though,
I wish I had a worse foe,
Like Juan Monaco
Not one that makes my pain grow.”

The popcorn match of the first round is between France’s Gael Monfils and Briton Andy Murray. The two juniors rivals just teed it up in Hamburg, where Murray scored the win. But this time, they are sure to play on center court, as Monfils is the French male with the best chance of advancing far. That match should go five. With Monfils already saying that “it’s not easy to relax” at RG, look for Murray to squeak through… With only Monfils playing halfway decent during the past few weeks, this might be the weakest group of French men ever at RG.

Here’s the nachos with jalapenos match: Fernando Gonzalez v. Marat Safin. We’ll take a Gonzo in screaming five setter....Lleyton Hewitt has a good chance to get through to Rafael Nadal in the fourth round, but he’ll need to be clicking to topple Dominik Hrbaty in the third round. .. Imagine you’re Nicolas Kiefer, you look at your draw and of course, you could be facing Federer again, this time in the fourth round. Jut imagine how many service sector employees the cantankerous German castigated ‘for even looking at him’ after he found that out… Here’s a good wonk match, unless you are French, then it’s a mandatory for every fan: Fabrice Santoro v. Jose Acasuso (also on center)…. Inside Federer's head, the drones are buzzing around, saying it’s the best draw you can have Rog with the Slam shaky Tommy Robredo being your probable quarterfinal foe. But then the queen bee returns (Mirka, of course, in jeans and high heels as always) and reminds him that Nicolay Davydenko could sting in the semis. …You read it here first: Jimmy Wang will whip Richard Gasquet….Just when we thought they were fading, Argentina placed three qualifers in the main draw. Major, major props to Aussie Wayne Arthurs for qualifying.

The feeling around the grounds is that Amelie Mauresmo – she of the tight gullet -- will play much better this year than she ever has, but she has to be fearful of Venus Williams in the quarters. Facing Strasbourg winner Nicole Vaidisova in the fourth round could very dicey too. … Shahar Peer has played very well as of late, taking down Anastasia Myskina in a third set tiebreak in Istanbul. Watch her give Elena Dementieva hell in the third round. I’m sure that Myskina is beside herself after the loss, but you just know that she’ll thump Sania Mirza in the first round. Sania is seriously slumping and could be an afterthought by the end of the year. Please get in shape. How about a Myskina-Ana Ivanovic third round? Tasty and a big test of the young Serb’s nerves.

Tatiana Golovin and her injured ankle will play her first match since falling to Maria Sharapova in Miami. Regretfully, she’ll face Jie Zheng, who will run her off the court. Martina Hingis figures to get through that quadrant but will have a hell of a time beating Kim Clijsters in the quarters.

The top quarter of the bottom half of the draw is the toughest: Henin, Ivanovic, Myskina, Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova. Believe it or not, Petrova v. Henin could be a quarter and they are many folk’s top two favorites.

My Venus Williams analysis: wins her first two rounds easily, is pressed by Shuai Peng or Elena Likhovtseva in the third round, batters Patty Schnyder in the fourth round and then gives Mauresmo everything she can handle in the quarters.

If Venus falls early, it could be an awful tournament for US women, although I do like Ashley Harkleroad chances to get to the third round. I also expect Meghann Shaughnessy to push Mauresmo (a replay of the ’96 RG girls final, won by AM) and don’t count out Jamea Jackson of beating Groenefeld again if they meet in round three… Other than Mauresmo, the French don’t have any big hopes, but amazingly, on top of the seven women who were given wild cards, three French women qualified.

I think I’ll go into my travelogue then, somewhere early in the third set of Fed’s romp. Here’s one nugget from my young neighbor in row 29 when we were about 100 miles from Charles De Gaulle: “Mom, I think we are going to crash into the Eiffel Tower.”

Maria saved 3 MPs before winning the match!!!!!! And Roger sure had no idea what had hit him LOL..... No huge surprises though for now Good going for Nalby even though (Lau please don't kill me) I am hoping someone knocks him out before he meets Kolya LMAO ;D ;D ;D and Tim's match wasn't as bad. Dinara's ride was bumpy but she made it through ;D ;D ;D
