It's not even that marats but why does it have to be in the 1st round this sort of match is easily capable of being a final in this tournie.
I dont think Marat will have it easy as Igor has been Valencia during the DC and has been training with David Ferrer so he has got back to the clay mentality.
I want Marat to win but i think it will be a close match

Just read an interview with Mitya Tursunov after we won the DC tie and he says he's gonna withdraw from Valencia.... Gonna see if I can find a confirmation of that

Defending Champion Andreev Handed Tricky Opening Test

Defending champion Igor Andreev was handed a tricky first round encounter, when the singles main draw was announced in Valencia on Saturday.

Andreev meets Russian compatriot Marat Safin, the 2005 Australian Open winner, in the first round of the IV Open de Tenis Comunidad Valenciana.

Safin returned to the ATP circuit in February after a six-month layoff, recovering from knee surgery. He will make his first appearance at the tournament in three years.

It will be the Russian's first match on clay since losing in the fourth round to Tommy Robredo at Roland Garros last year.

Top seed Nikolay Davydenko, ranked No. 6 in the INDESIT ATP Rankings, will begin his European clay court season against Czech Jan Hernych in the first round.

Other Top 10 stars in action are No. 2 seed Gaston Gaudio and No. 3 seed David Ferrer. Gaudio will meet Raemon Sluiter of the Netherlands, while Ferrer meets a qualifier.

The trio all compiled the best clay-court results of their career last season, with Davydenko compiling a 25-10 match record, Gaudio went 42-8 and Ferrer 25-15.

Former champions in the field include No. 4 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero (2003) and No. 7 seed Fernando Verdasco (2004).

Filippo Volandri (No. 6) and Dmitry Tursunov (No. 8) make up the seeded players.

Shame about Koyla but it must have been hard to return back to the clay court mentality. But we now how good a clay courter he is and people should watch out
