from sports illustrated WIMBLEDON, England (AP) - Two-time defending champion Roger Federer could face 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt in the Wimbledon semifinals. The third-seeded Hewitt was placed in No. 1 Federer's top half of the draw Thursday at the All England Club. French Open champion Rafael Nadal, seeded fourth, was drawn in the bottom half, where he could meet No. 2 Andy Roddick in the semifinals. On the women's side, Serena Williams could face sister Venus in the fourth round after both were drawn in the bottom half. The winner of that match could face Belgium's Justin Henin-Hardenne in the quarterfinals - with defending champion Maria Sharapova potentially waiting in the semifinals. Top-seeded Lindsay Davenport has an easier time in the top half of the draw, with her toughest projected match against Kim Clijsters not until the quarterfinals. Federer will begin his bid for a third consecutive title on Centre Court against Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu. Roddick faces Jiri Vanek of the Czech Republic. Federer has a relatively easy run to the quarterfinals, potentially facing seeded players Nicolas Kiefer, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Nikolay Davydenko or grass-court specialist Jonas Bjorkman. Hewitt plays Christophe Rochus of Belgium in the first round. He could face a tough match against fifth-seeded Russian Marat Safin ;D ;D ;D or Mario Ancic, a semifinalist last year, in the quarterfinals. Roddick could face Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in the second round. The two met in Sunday's final of the Queen's Club tournament, with Roddick beating the 6-foot-10 Karlovic in two tiebreakers. Karlovic plays a qualifier in the first round. If he gets past Karlovic, Roddick's toughest potential opponents to reach the quarterfinals would be Xavier Malisse and Ivan Ljubicic. In the quarters, Roddick could face four-time semifinalist Tim Henman or Sebastien Grosjean, who was bumped up 17 places from his world ranking to the ninth seed. Roddick could meet Nadal, 2002 finalist David Nalbandian or Thomas Johansson in the semifinal. Mark Philippoussis of Australia, the 2003 runner-up who is a wild card in this tournament, opens against Karol Beck of Slovakia and could face Safin in the second round. Safin plays Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand in the first round. Nadal opens against Vince Spadea. Davenport plays Russia's Alina Jidkova in her opening match, and could face U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarterfinals and third-seeded Amelie Mauresmo in the semis. Sharapova opens against Nuria Vives Llagostera of Spain and could then face 15-year-old Sesil Karatancheva, who beat Venus Williams in the third round of the French Open, or talented teenager Tatiana Golovin of France. Fourth-seeded Serena Williams, who won Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003, drew American Angela Haynes in the first round, while Venus Williams was paired against a qualifier. Venus won Wimbledon in 2000 and 2001 but was seeded only 14th this year. Serena leads Venus 7-6 in overall meetings, eight of them in finals, including three at Wimbledon. Venus won their last meeting, at the Nasdaq-100 tournament in Key Biscayne, Fla., on March 29, winning 6-1, 7-6 (8) in the quarterfinals. French Open champion Henin-Hardenne will play Greece's Eleni Daniilidou in the first round, with Mauresmo facing Paola Suarez of Argentina.

;D ;D ;D ;D I`m not sure about this, but it seems that Pimpim might play the SF against Roger.... Joachim`s birthday is on the 1st of July, the day the SF might be played. WATCH OUT ROGER WITH BIRTHDAY BOYS!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D Rotflol, Lau ! I thought I was the only one on earth to have been searching if a tennis player was born he day of the semis in Wimbledon and to have find Joachim. But Joachim cannot meet Feed (I call him Feed 'cause he feeds himself with victories...) in the semies, so it will be harder to beat him Anyway, this is not a good draw for Marat... For Srichaphan, Philippoussis, Ancic, Hewitt, Federer and Rod', grass is the best surface :/. Except Rod who'll face Karlovic in the second round, the other main seeds have "easy" draws. But Marat has no pressure on his shoulders, so that he can go further than anyone expects (except us, fans and grand dreamers ^_^) !

Okay, at first, I didn't think the draw was that bad until Ancic in 4th round, but now that I think about it, it's pretty scary. Paradorn upset Agassi in 2002 and Mark is a Wimbledon finalist. Yes Cassie but we are now in 2005 A lot has changed since then........

Paradorn 1st round, then Philippoussis?! omg that sucks! Both are pretty good grass court players, Paradorn just lost in the quarters of Nottingham and Mark is through to the semis at the Ordina Open. Only good thing is neither of then have done very well the past year. Well my expectations for Wimby just bottomed out

I really feel that the important thing here is as you said neither Paradon or Mark have play very well the past year. In addition, Marat has show amazing results on grass at Halle, I know its only one tournament but this could be the difference.

paradon lost against Gasquet. Philippoussis has to play against Sanguinetti in the semifinal.. but like you all said no easy draw for marat!! he has that injury (not serious but he always said that he has pains) + he don´t really like grass though he played very very good in halle. nevertheless i think he is doing fine!!! i think he isn´t expecting too much from wimbledon maybe that helps ( like in halle).

Totally agree with you, Teresa. Always wonder they really draw the name? Let sum up who Marat got at Wimbly: 1. Paradon Srichaphan 2. Mark Philippoussis - Runner-up Wimbly 2003 3. Feliciano Lopez 4. Mario Ancic - SF Wimbly 2004 5. Lleyton Hewitt - 2002 Wimbly Champion and former world number 1 6. Roger Federer - 2003, 2004 Wimbly Champion and the world number 1 7. Andy Roddick - Runner-up Wimbly 2004 and former world number 1 A lucky Marat!!! Who else can get more. This remind me of US Open 2001, when my sweet Pete got Marat, Patrick and Andre.
