Yes,he won!!! He played really good! He seemed like he was alone on the court...it looked more like a practice match! Anyway,he seems determined to win his first matches easily, just as he said before this match! I hope he will win easily the second round match as well! I suppose he will play Ivo Karlovic! Go,MARAT! Oh,and i have to say he looks great!!! ;D

Vass, did u watch the match? No. I did not. But here are my thoughts: Marat should take care of his serve, clean up the errors. His serve percentage in the first set was horrible and equaled just 38%. Eventually it went up to 53%, but that's not good anyway. Ace count is horrible as well. Eroors vs winners... He should have had more winners than errors against this opponent. But I heared that he played very well, nonetheless and forced many errors.

I watched the second and the third set. He played really good, although he sometimes made easy mistakes! You're right about the serve..i couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the statistics of the first set..38%...Anyway, he had some EXCELLENT winners!Great shots!

I agree with what Vass said, and i hope Marat will improves his serve next match. btw he'll play against Ulihrach.
i'm happy he won in staright sets. Would have been really mad if he had needed one more! so it's good. Hopefully he'll have other short matches in that tournament

Ivo Karlovic went down to Ulihrach 3-6,7-6,5-7,2-6! So Marat will next play Ulihrach! Moya is out as well!

alright!! i'm so happy with that match! i mean, the score really was very lopsided...i like it. i missed some of the match because my father kept making me chnge the channel so he could watch the news in between advertisements...but nonetheless, i think it's very good...he made some great shots that really made me very happy...my father was looking at me like i'm some kind of weirdo.. anyway, congratulations to Marat for his first won match of the year!! i think this is good enough cause for a celebration so and by the way, anybody got transcripts of the interview after the match? it was great...and funny...but i missed some of it as well

Haha Annie, the things we do for Marat.... Yeh i think he was really happy, in the post match interview, despite the questions and the "your not as stupid as you look" comment he seemed really happy, YAY what a great start, just a few adjustments and a little more practice for the next match..CANT WAIT ;D

Congrats to my dear Vass and all the others here! Jeej! I saw the whole match! Vass, I must confirm he played really well, it was a good training, and the young kid is really good. Well, the UEs can be forgiven for this match, 19/20 ratio doesn't really say much for this match. As for the serve - he didn't turn it to the max, esp. in the 1st set he tried to save the power or energy or whatever..... What I especially liked - the 3 lovely dropshots , net points won 18/19 - superb, he could try his alternatives, he was really aggressive, concentrated till the end. Well, he dropped his serve at the beginning of the 2nd set after taking the kid's serve but that was just a very short lapse that passed quickly. The diffrerence in class was obvious but the kid has great potential, really nice shots! Marat's BP conversion 9/13 (69%) was also not that bad for a change but it doesn't really say much either with the kid. Umm, am I a bit ironical here? Steph, I would've been mad too if he'd gone to 4 sets. BTW, from the Russian commentator who had spoken to Walt - Marat had worked 2 weeks in Valencia only with Peter and started to work with Walt only in Perth so it will take time for all this work to sink in. But his movement was pretty good... Hehe, Walt had sounded a bit offended that Marat hadn't ask him to work on his condition like last year in the offseason. But as Marat said in the ES itw he did some things differently this year. Ulirach next - so what d'ya reckon? He beat Ivo but shouldn't be too hard for Marat, he can't be that hot all of a sudden... BTW Steph, Ollie is still on fire, he beat Kiefer in 5, amazing Ollie! OK, enough of my ramble now. YAY, I am happy today!

Marat won . It wosn't dificult oponent for Marat , but Marat done his work And he lost only 3 gem's , even Federer lost 4 I'm so happy , and i'm waiting for next match. He meat with Ulihrach. They play once , and Marat lost, but it wos in 2002 - some time ago.
