from Eurosport (I thought it would be interesting ) Eurosport's Road to Roland ranking follows all Indesit ATP Race points acquired on clay and applies the system to women's tournaments with the following parity: Masters Series points = women's Tier I tournaments, International Gold = Tier II, other men's tournaments = women's Tier III.
Eurosport - 02/05/2005oh!, btw, I know Marat didn`t play his first match, but Nadal in in his quarter part of the draw And Ferrero is not in the draw!!!! I don´t get it.....

Top Americans Kick Off Action
Competition got underway on Monday at the Telecom Italia Masters Roma with Americans Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi in action.
Top seed Andy Roddick made his European season clay court debut as he breezed into the second round with a 6-4, 6-2 win over British net-rusher Greg Rusedski. The American will now face Spanish veteran Albert Costa in the second round.
No. 6 seed Andre Agassi also moved on with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Italian wild card Alessio Di Mauro. Agassi, one of three former champions in the draw (2002), has a second round date with French teenager Richard Gasquet.
The 18-year-old Gasquet announced his arrival in Rome with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Paradorn Srichaphan in only 47 minutes.
In a match of contrasting styles, No. 4 seed Tim Henman defeated former No. 1 Gustavo Kuerten 6-3, 6-3 in their first round match.
Wild card Andreas Seppi thrilled Italian fans with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 10 seed Joachim Johansson in 50 minutes. The Swede could not convert any of his three break point opportunities.
Spaniard Fernando Verdasco provided the other upset of the day as he knocked out the No. 14 seed Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 27 minutes.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:
ANDRE AGASSI: “I felt good about my ball-striking. I was getting the lead in the point very aggressively, and then I just wasn't finishing the point - a little bit of, you know, first match on clay. And sometimes at the end I would press too much or not enough and I would let him back into the point. I think I was hitting the ball well, but I could have closed some points, important points, off a little earlier.”
ANDY RODDICK : “Yeah, you know, the first matches are always very, very uncomfortable, you know. Especially Greg was serving well early in the first set. You know, it's not his favorite surface, but his serve's good on any court, you know. So I felt like once I got into the points that I had the upper hand.”
TIM HENMAN : “Yeah, absolutely. He's a little ways away from playing his best and he needs to get those matches under his belt. But I think, as you said, when you're playing Guga on clay, with his experience and the caliber of player that he is, yeah, I'm very, very pleased.”
“It's one of those scenarios that having made a very sort of difficult transition after Miami going into Monte-Carlo and losing first round there, you want to come into an event like this, get matches under your belt. Having to play Guga first round, I certainly appreciated it was going to be difficult.”
GUSTAVO KUERTEN : “No, I think he, as far as I let him play more comfortable, he played very solid, you know. He didn't miss too much. He always has a bunch of different plays that he use all the time. For me, was even difficult, you know, because you never know what to expect and he was make me run a lot by the way he is playing.”
TUESDAY PREVIEW:
Defending champion Carlos Moya and Spanish countryman Rafael Nadal highlight Court Centrale action on the second of the Telecom Italia Masters Roma.
Leading off the day is No. 9 seed Guillermo Coria and Chilean Fernando Gonzalez in their fifth meeting. The Argentine has defeated Gonzalez in their four previous meetings, the last time coming at last year's NASDAQ-100 Open in Miami. Coria is coming off a run to the final in Masters Series Monte Carlo (l. to Nadal) on Apr. 17.
In the second match, No. 2 seed Marat Safin will start his campaign for his sixth career ATP Masters Series title when he faces Jiri Novak in their first round match. The reigning Australian Open champion leads their series 2-1 and the only previous clay court meeting came in the second round of Barcelona in 1998 as Safin prevailed in three sets.
In the third match of the day, 18-year-old Nadal makes his main draw debut against Russian Mikhail Youzhny. Nadal, the No. 5 seed, has defeated Youzhny both times this year in Doha and at the Australian Open (saving one match point). Nadal leads the ATP circuit with a 25-2 clay court record and four ATP clay titles (Costa do Sauipe, Acapulco, Monte Carlo, Barcelona).
In evening session, defending champion Moya kicks off his campaign for a repeat performance against Italian wild card Potito Starace in their first meeting. This will be Starace's first main draw appearance in Rome.
On the Pallacorda, it will be an all-German affair as Tommy Haas and Nicolas Kiefer play each other for the fifth time in ATP competition. Haas has taken their last two meetings in the first round at Wimbledon in 2000 and in the final of Los Angeles in 2004.
No. 3 seed and last week's champion in Estoril, Gaston Gaudio, will be hoping to continue his recent success when he squares off against Karol Beck of the Slovak Republic for the first time.

Teenage sensation Rafael Nadal makes his first appearance in Rome on Tuesday in the third match in centre court. The number five seed, who has already won clay court tournaments in Barcelona and Montecarlo this year, is up against Russia's Mikhail Youzhny. Before him, another Russian, in-form number two seed Marat Safin plays Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic. Play starts at 1pm local time on the centre court wih Guillermo Coria of Argentina, number nine seed, against Chilean Fernando Gonzalez. If that were not enough for centre court ticket holders, another big name, 2004 Rome champion Carlos Moya, seeded seven this year, is pitched against Italy's Potito Starace at 9pm under floodlights. Court number one highlights for Tuesday include the return of Argentine David Nalbandian, last year's finalist, and fellow Argentine Gaston Gaudio, winner of last year's French Open and seeded three this year in Rome. If you are looking to spot tomorrow's stars, why not check out two interesting players on court four. Germany's Florian Mayer was a qualifier last year but has made this year's draw in his own right. Belgium's Olivier Rochus, the smallest player on the circuit, is also great value and has had a blinding start to the season this year.
