OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank God it's all over. This was a nightmare. I was at the Olympic stadium on Sunday and I am telling you close to having a breakdown. Even though we should all thank Marat for his victory that let us go through to the next round of the Davis Cup, this was the worst I had seen him play in a very long time. The guyfromrussia was all over the place!!! I was so nervous I think I lost about 2 kilos in those 3.5 hours. I truly and sincerely hope that this was just a one-off thing and he is generally in much better shape than he was on Sunday because otherwise big trouble is coming our way. He admitted afterwards that he was very nervous because there was a home crowd waiting for him to pull us through but I think a player of that high standard and at the age of 25 should really learn how to deal with it. Don't get me wrong, I deeply admire the guy and respect him to every single inch of my body but I just wish he stopped wrecking my nervous system. LMAO
Anyway, everything is good that ends well. CONGRATULATIONS RUSSIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!!!!! Here's the Reuters article on FRA vs RUS rematch!!!!!
Russia rematch gives Mathieu another mission Mon Mar 7, 2005 11:34 AM GMT
LONDON, March 7 (Reuters) - After surviving a weekend of drama and intrigue, France can look forward to a tantalising showdown with Russia in the Davis Cup quarter-finals.
With champions Spain and powerhouses the United States losing at the first hurdle, France's tie against Russia looks the pick of the next round.
France had been expected to offer little resistance to the in-form Swedes because the nine-times champions were going through a slump in form.
In Paul-Henri Mathieu, however, France discovered a man on a mission to bury his Davis Cup demons and he did it in style to overcome Thomas Johansson in the deciding rubber in Strasbourg.
That exhilarating victory will allow Mathieu to settle another score when France travel to Russia for the July 15-17 tie in a repeat of the 2002 final.
Three years ago, French captain Guy Forget handed the then little-known Mathieu the responsibility of contesting the final rubber against Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.
The gamble failed and Mathieu was left distraught after coming out second best in the five-set tussle, leaving the Russians to celebrate their first Davis Cup triumph.
BEST THING
Sunday's victory against Johansson gave the 96th-ranked Mathieu his first win in a live fifth rubber, and he is determined to take this confidence into the quarter-finals. "It was the best thing that has ever happened to me," Mathieu said after his four-set win over Johansson.
"When I lost the third set after having two match points it was a bit tough.
"I never thought back to Bercy (the final against Russia) though, I was in my bubble and I didn't have a match point there.
"I hope that this win is a new start for me."
While Forget will be hoping the rest of his squad can turn around their form before the July tie -- French number one Sebastien Grosjean lost both singles matches -- Russia's Marat Safin won all three of his rubbers against Chile.
After chalking up a 4-1 win over Chile, the 2002 champions will be keen for history to repeat itself when they lock horns with France.
BLANKED OPPOSITION
Argentina's baseliners can expect to have an outing on grass when they travel to Australia.
Having dished out a 5-0 whitewash on clay when they hosted the Australians in the first round three years ago, the Argentines are unlikely to receive any favours.
Both nations won 5-0 over the weekend and Argentine captain Alberto Mancini is ready for any challenge.
"We have a tough tie ahead but we have players who certainly can adapt their game to grass, such as Wimbledon finalist (David) Nalbandian, and (Guillermo) Coria, who reached an ATP final last year on grass," Mancini said.
"If the team keeps on working together as a united and joyful team as it has been doing, working for a common objective, we certainly can give a rough battle to anyone on any surface."
Croatia's reward for eliminating the United States in the first round for the second time in three years is a home tie against Romania.
Enjoying the form of his life, Ivan Ljubicic continued to be a thorn in American sides as he again won all three of his matches.
Victories over Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick in Los Angeles would have done Ljubicic's reputation no harm, and he should lead Croatia to a semi-final against France or Russia.
The Netherlands and Slovakia, conquerors of champions Spain, meet in the other quarter-final.

Annie THANKS for the report, always great to get your reports Can well believe how nerve wracking it must have been to be actually there for the match!! Marat has always said that playing in front of his home crowd is never easy for him, I guess its just one of those things you never get over. Poor love, the added pressure of carrying Russia thru must have taken its toll. In addition he said that ppl kept shouting out at him, telling him what to do, and giving advice, NOW that is really irrating and can be very distracting. With so many variables I think he did extremely well and am so proud of him, and delighted Russia won!! Thanks again

With so many variables I think he did extremely well and am so proud of him, and delighted Russia won!! Thanks again You guys are very very welcome and I couldn't be more happy that France won, too and they're gonna play in Moscow yet again, so I'll get to see it all live As for the Russian crowd at the tournament, I was really ashamed of being a Russian myself at that point in time. Let alone everyone thought it was their duty to shout at Marat and tell him what to do as well as sometimes even swear at him, the worst part of it all was the fact that the crowd was really bad and unfair to Gonzales. I mean, come on, we all support out country but people have some respect!!!!! When Gonzales was missing a ball or having a bad serve everyone was clapping and cheering, at a certain point he couldn't even serve people were shouting and whistling so much. I was sooooooo peed off and ashamed. This is really not something people should do and worst of all be proud of, we should really support all the players, irrespectful of whom we support and have our hearts set on. It's a cruel game but a beautiful one and it always takes 2 to tango here and make it a beautiful show people come and pay money to watch. ))) Sorry for this little outburst but it really shook me up.

Thats ok Annie its good to share your views I didnt realise that the Russian fans(obviously not all of them) were like that Well to tell you the truth, I prefer a Russian crowd when they're away supporting our players somewhere abroad. This truly means that people follow their sportsmen and care about the game. When events happen in Moscow a lot of people come just to socialise and show off and have some fun for themselves without really bothering about players' feelings and the game itself. Just for the sake of saying "Hey, I watched Safin play. What an idiot, couldn't even hit a ball right". And considering tickets weren't all that cheap it's mostly a so-called "golden youth" who just like to be where it is trendy to be at a certain moment. Oh well, there are a lot of sad human beings in this world.
