gee. i've never seen maria so excited before. so TOTALLY unbefitting of her age...tsktsktsk LOL Jiat! You don't know how relieved I was that he won yesterday! Imagine if he had lost 2 matches on TBs in a row and against opponents he badly wants to win. His confidence would have hit rock bottom again! And in Moscow the people are not very nice to Marat when he loses, like he said - everybody is demanding him to win there! BTW, the Kremlin Cup site is down for me now too as probably too many wanted to follow the matches/scores there. On merrier note - I thought I could be a Marat fan at whatever age!

On merrier note - I thought I could be a Marat fan at whatever age! of course u can...as i've said a gazillion times before...it's just weird to see u acting so hyper and excited. like i was last night...ask the msn-ers. lol anyway...i got this from MTF who got this from Safinator Q: Why is it that Max is so tough for you? Marat: For the same reason's why he is tough for anybody. After a good serve, he always rushes to the net and therefore puts pressure on you. It is hard to show your best tennis if there is no rythm at all. When seeded players meet unseeded in the earlier rounds, than the unseeded ones have nothing to lose.. I am particularly playing in from of my home crowd that expects me only to win. Q: Which moments were crucial today? Marat: Beginning of all tiebreaks (first 3-4 points). In general, you want to gain advantage in tiebreaks early on, since they are so fast. Q: Can you say that today you revenged your loss to Max last time you played him in Davis Cup? Marat: No, this match had a different meaning to it. I need the points to qualify for Masters Cup. Q: How did it happend that you are playing doubles with him? Marat: I didn't have a partnet when I came here, and then before the tournament they called me and offered to play doubles, so I agreed, cause I thought it was a good idea. Q: You played 6 tiebreaks in your last two matches, what are your feelings? Marat: Well, it feels better to win them. Actually, these matches didn't take a lot out of me, since we didn't have many rallies in both matches. It was all about serve. Q: Have you talked to Nadia Petrova, who draw you to play with Max? Marat: I am going to have a serious talk with her... (smiles). Actually, these matches are very important for you confidence and form. Right now I am more optimistic about this tournament than just few hours ago... Q: Do you enjoy these kind of matches or feel nervous? Marat: You enjoy it only if you win. If I would have lost, I wouldn't be smiling right now. During the match I didn't feel positive emotions, because I knew how hard it would be to get a bite on his serve.. Q: What do you think about your davis cup match up against Chili? Marat: The tennis level is growing in South America, It is good that we are playing at home. We will need to choose fast indoor surface. I know they (Gonzo, Massu) played very well in Olympics on hard but indoors is faster. Q: What do you think about women's tennis success? Marat: We have to thank Anna Kournikova.

So happy for Marat!!! It must feel so good after that close call against Roddick in Thailand: it's like he's righted a wrong and also to come from a set down and win 2 tie-breaks.....WOW!! That shows some tough mental control - no 'lottery' excuses now ;D And it was like 7-1 and 7-2....... Good boy!! Also, after he lost to Mirnyi at DC (Russia v Belarus), Marat really had to save face in Moscow, infront of a home crowd against the local 'enemy'. Well done, Marat! Hope the home crowd can cheer him to a second title Thanks for news and interviews, Jiat & Maria ;D It's much appreciated, as always (After the events of this weekend, I was beginning to think I'd have to call in the back-up webmonkeys )

Nelia thanks for the great photos Maria thanks for the translations
Ruth, yep, agree those tie breaks will be great for his confidence ;D
I know, cause I think when he plays infront of his home crowd like this he is most nervous and the pressure is tremendous. I don't think the home crowd would have been very forgiving if he had lost to Max.

Awesome doubles match guys!!!!!!!!! 7-5, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (4) Marat & Max won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marat played really well! They lost 4 MP-s in the 2nd set TB but recovered from the disappointment.
