Yikes!! What is up with this guy!? I really thought he would go far in this tournament. This guy is way too mental for tennis. It's too bad cause he's sooooo good at the physical part of it. I love his playing, and I hope he gets over whatever it is that is stopping him from being the best. I still love him though. Go Marat!!
Tear, Tear

As I said earlier, this has to be one of the hardest matches Marat has ever played.
Anyone who thinks that Marat did not want to win this soooo badly it choked him, and thinks that he did not try or that he tanked does not deserve to be a fan of Marat's.
Its times like this that Marat needs the support of people who truly believe in him. If you can truly support someone who is down then you are a true supporter. People who are on a high, winning all the time do not need the same support.
Feel sad, feel disappointed, but if you want to take out your anger on Marat because HE did not do what YOU wanted him to do is unfair. If you don't want to support Marat any more ok fine, go then, GO, but when he returns, and he will, don't come back.
Marat will be back and he will be winning.
NO ONE needs people that only support you when you are up and doing well but can't show a single ounce of empathy when you are failing, falling, living a nightmare. There does not appear to be the slightest hint of comprehension as to the turmoil Marat must be going through right now, the overwhelming self doubt, the overwhelming lack of confidence he must be feeling.
Zita>>>
Yes he is very sad I am sure, and yes I am sure he would want someone to hold him and comfort him, but lucky for him he does not have to rely on his 'fans' for this comfort.
I know I know..............everyone is entitled to their own opinions and feelings, sooooooooo please I am not trying to tell anyone how they should feel about Marat because he lost, what I am saying is if you can't support him at times like this, thru thick and thin, with the bitter and the sweet, then you should not be supporting him as a fan.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm having a major 'why do I bother supporting this guy?' moment Just spoke to a friend who saw the match and she said Marat wasn't playing badly, and occasionally was brilliant, but he was just lacking that special something..... Enqvist wasn't good at all, but Marat couldn't capitalise on it. And of course, this increased Enqvist's confidence Marat kept hitting things too long or just outside the lines. When he came to the net, Enqvist continuely passed him. Apparently, his first serve was awful He fought in the 3rd (obv. ) but by the end, he just seemed to have resigned himself to the loss Statistically, there doesn't seem to have been much in it between Marat and Enqvist (I'm not sure that's good considering Enqvist's current form!!) Marat didn't lose his temper much to begin with: he seemed almost serene! Then the racket bounces came when he lost the 2nd set...... And he had been in a strong winning position in the first set - it should never have even gone to tie-break! Afterwards, Marat looked upset (as you can imagine..) He threw his wristband to a fan and walked off, didn't sign for anyone. As for the box, Peter and Amit were there; couldn't really see anyone else. BTW, conditions were really windy, so expect a weather-related excuse in the press conference (And if Marat says 'Enqvist was just too good' don't believe him, because he wasn't!') I'm struggling to think of anything positive from this.... only one thing: my friend reminded me that Federer went through a similar period when he first hooked up with Lundgren: he seemed to implode on court and nothing would go right - he was losing to people he should have beaten at tournaments he could have won. So maybe, Marat is also going through a 'wilderness' period of his own and if he sticks with Peter, things will improve to the level that Roger is at now? I don't know: I'm kinda holding onto that idea at the moment! If you're feeling depressed, don't read this next paragraph>>>> The commentators were saying that Marat has all the talent in the world, and he was really hoping to win this grand slam, but this is the kind of loss that could break him and make him retire, and then tennis would lose all that charisma and talent This loss also means he has probably no hope of getting into the Houston Masters at the end of the year

Wow, he lost, can say I honestly didn't expect it!!!! Just spoke to a friend who saw the match and she said Marat wasn't playing badly, and occasionally was brilliant, but he was just lacking that special something..... Enqvist wasn't good at all, but Marat couldn't capitalise on it. true, Marat did play good, very good at times. but I have to disagree with what you said about Enqvist, especially after he won that first set he started playing better, in the first set he wasn't playing great, but after that win he became much better.

Well, I didn't see the match, I'm just passing on what I was told. I think that's what my friend was saying about Enqvist's confidence growing with every mistake Marat made - his tennis was improving although his game wasn't astounding.

And Enquist was not better than Marat. Ruth>>>>>>>>> This is my worse nightmare, and dread the possibility, I am just hoping that he will just hang in there and look forward to 2005. He has said more than once that 2004 was going to be a difficult year, it would take time to get back in, but that it would be preparation for 2005. I know I know this too has to be devastating for Marat Ruth>> That's a positive.

And I'm not trying to excuse Marat now, because I do think that he should have won it. Don't know what's wrong with him, but I hope he can change this sitauation quickly, coz like Ruth said in the last paragraph of her message, things don't look good and I'm afraid this loss can break him down. Well... to tell you the truth guys I'm not very sad, angry or whatever. I was preparing for that. After his performance in Sopot or in Athens I haven't trusted his tennis anymore so I'm not very disapointed now. Really, you should try that. Just don't expect anything and life will continue normally
