HI all, really disappointing today. I mean what in the world is going on with his game. Is he really becoming just an average player just like Lopez or even worse? Taking his AO performance aside, Marat would be like top 60 this year.. I don't think it was a good effort today, because he knew it was windy, so he had a perfect excuse to his loss. He lost 12 out of 13 points at the start of the second set.. He thinks tiebreaks are a lottery, but he seemed to fall apart after that lottery. His losses becoming a normality as of late and that's a scary thought. I'll be at US Open this year and I really want to scream something bad in russian when I'll see him. I am gonna say something far worse than what Marat is yelling during his matches...

Hi Vlad, welcome to tgfr! Well, I agree his performance isn't good this yeah... AO was great but that's all (wokay, maybe Estoril was good too...). He keeps saying that he's coming back after injury, he's looking for his rhythm etc... but he had the injury last year and somehow he found his rhythm in AO so I really don't understand what's going on... Next step is the US Open. I will watch his game and results but I'm not excited and I do not expect anything. And now I'll shut up, coz I'm starting to be in a bad mood again

Marat's really just making excuses for himself now. It's been how many months since AO? And finding his rhythm? Give me a break.
Look at Haas who was out for around 2 years! (Forgive me if I'm wrong) He's making a great comeback!
And I know that Marat's true fans stick with him through the rollar coaster ride, it's getting annoying.
Okay, now I'm in a bad mood.
Oh yeah, welcome Vlad.

(Forgive me if I'm wrong) He's making a great comeback! .ivy.>> I think Haas has been trying to come back since last year.....he really has not just come back overnight, its taken at least a year or more, but he is trying.....I agree he is trying.....and he is seeing results and he is more consistent in his efforts that I will agree with

Hi Vlad, nice to see you on TGFR (Teresa, you may get a bit of deja vu in this post ;D) My thoughts on Athens >> Well, he was never going to kill himself to win. I think as soon as he comes into a match that requires extra energy or pushing his game, he's just not going to do that - he's not going to drain himself before the US Open. That has always been his goal and not even the Olympics is going to distract him from that. I think us fans have put way more enphasis on Athens than Marat has. For him, it is probably mere preparation and winning it, even getting into semis or quarters, may have tired him & coupled with the long flight back to NY, he may be secretly happy that he can leave and start the serious practice over in NY, ahead of all the other players who are sweating out under the Greek sun I'm not saying that's what Marat's view of it is, but I was told not to expect much from him pre-US Open and I guess Marat has lived up to that. It's disappointing, but we all know Marat can beat Lopez, he's not a particular problem (although a little tricky on the right day). It's down to Marat as to whether he wants to raise his game and beat him (and therefore, stay longer in Athens) or let Lopez have his way (and therefore get back to NY for major practice, jet-lag recouperation and acclimatisation ) I'm not saying Marat tanked, because he obviously fought in the first set and the score is decent enough. If he could have won it easily, I think he would have done, and I'm guessing Marat would then have taken it as it comes and see how far he can go. I just don't think he was going to kill himself to win a tournament that he has never been too bothered about and is just before his dream tournament. The fact that Lundgren left early, says it all. So don't start fretting about Marat doing his 'self-destruct' thing or is tennis being sub-standard, because I personally, just don't think that's true. He's pacing himself, as he has promised to do from the beginning of the year. I will start to get worried when the US Open starts - that's when Marat has no excuses and the pacing should stop - that's when we should see the real Marat come out to play: the Marat who seems to have been kept deliberately caged until the big tournies. Like Marat, I guess we fans have to take a deep breath and pace ourselves too; just keep it cool till his big Adidas feet touch NY hardcourts. Then we can go crazy if he loses and rejoice if he wins! Until then, I've been trying to keep a safe distance from any wins or loses because I don't think either mean much at this point in Marat's season. (Or his 'masterplan' *lol*)

Wokeej.. so maybe he doesnt want to be tired for USopen.. but it's like this for quite a while.. not winning major thingys.. cmon.. it's not like you're gonna be tired for weeks when you're trying to win ONE more match!! That will take like an hour or something.. dont tell me you are tired for so long then.. There are players out there who win many matches.. at least quite a few more then Marat... and they do it every time.. it's not like they win some and then they're out for a month cuz they're tired.. but wokeej.. this one might be a lil bcuz of the USO.. *sigh* let's hope he brings us some joy there... ;)Caroline

i'm sure that marat will be great at Paris for the master!!!!he is always pretty good in Paris!!! yeah i know, i hope he'll go far in the tournament btw i think i've forgotten: hey Vlad!! and welcome (sorry, i'm late) I've just read something that i don't like at all: this morning i had the newsletter from tennis-X.com in my mailbox but did not read it. And now that i'm reading it i wish i hadn't First they summed up all matches of yesterday and when saying that Marat and Mikhail lost to the Bryans they called our man Marat "Next!" Safin.... like now that he had lost the doubles it was just a matter of time before he left the singles draw and move to New York.... And then, even worse, when announcing the program for today, they wrote: Feliciano "F-Lo" Lopez vs. (9)Safin (watch for the tank by the Russian) I can't believe it!!!! they bet he would lost .... and what really annoys me is that they were right! i don't think he tanked tho, but still they were right....
