Hi everyone! Phew, what a crazy week! I'm just snatching 10mins to give you a little bit of Marat news I've heard around Liverpool (Irakli Labadze & Ivan Ljubicic are here and they're like Marat's best friends, so there's been a few mentions of Marat ;D) Some of this news is from Marat's management and some is just stuff from players & coaches - but I can't remember what news came from which source, so here's everything I know >> Marat considered pulling out of Halle (and everyone was telling him to do that and go to Rosmalen instead ) but he was like 'No, no I have to go to Halle...I made a promise. I'm not going to Ordina Open...' Everyone said he was crazy, but......that's Marat. He thinks he's being smart Re: Wimbledon >> On Monday I was told Marat's visa to work in the UK hadn't arrived - it was supposed to arrive 10 days before - so as soon as he went out of Halle, he had to fly back to Moscow to sort that out. (Although Ljubicic made a funny comment about 'oh he's always going back to Moscow now....' he was a bit sarcastic, as if he didnt approve of whatever was making him return to Moscow. Dunno what that means or if there's any significance.) That's the last news I heard about Marat, so if he doesn't play Wimbledon, it will probably be for visa reasons. If he had no intention of playing, he wouldn't be pursuing the visa so much But I'm pretty sure he'll be at Wimbledon; he would be so foolish to miss it because he has no injury excuse and he'll lose so many points if he withdraws (not to mention getting fined!) I know you can get a visa within 24hours if you go to your own Embassy so I'm hoping he's got it by now. So that's all my Marat-related news for today - I'll try and write up a little Liverpool report after the weekend about what went on. Anyway, must get back to work!

Thanks for the news Ruth!! God, I hope he'll get the visa . Just imagine how frustrated he would be if he couldn't play Wimbledon because of stupid visa

Thanks for the update Ruth Good to hear you have been having a good time in Liverpool, look forward to the report. The visa scenario seems suspect to me, I simply cannot see how he would be denied/or delayed a visa. I would have thought for athletes attending an event such as wimby it was pretty much just a formality. So there must be something else......maybe Dasha can't get a visa Also whats he doing with Peter, he must be paying out big bucks....I hope somehow they are training, and I would expect on grass? Anyway, I hope to god he plays wimby and I really hope he keeps Peter as a coach

No-one seems to know why Marat's visa has been delayed. I seriously doubt it's anything to do with Daria - she is an American citizen and doesn't need a work permit, only her passport to enter the UK. She's not working at Wimbledon so I don't see any problem with her per se. It's definitely Marat's work permit that hasn't come through - whether it was sent to the wrong address, or there was an admin error, I don't know. But it's not the first time he's been delayed/denied a visa and the Russian embassy is not known for it's reliability or efficiency. So as usual, Marat has to be there in person to get it In theory, athletes should be able to get a permit as easily as anyone else, but it doesn't always work like that and there is always room for human error (as anyone who's ever applied for a visa/permit will know *lol* ;D) I've no idea what Marat is doing in the mean time - he could be back in Moscow still and fly over late, or he could have left with his visa and gone down to Roehampton for some sneaky grass court practice. Or he could be somewhere else entirely! But he only pays Peter for the time they work together - so if they are seperated for now, then Marat won't owe him anything until they meet at Wimbledon. And I suspect Peter will be around for as long as Marat can keep him

Also I did not know how the setup re payment worked with Peter, so thanks for clarifying!! Likewise thanks for bringing us up todate! OMT I so hope you are right about Peter, you usually are so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

lost passports, stolen passport, no passport, missing visas, no work permit. Sounds like a familiar Marat scenario, which IMO might subconsciously (or consciously?) mean he doesn't want to be there & would rather be in his loft in Moscow. And I suspect he can keep Peter as coach for a long, long time. Oh, Marat, you are an interesting guy.

Of course Daria is a UScitizen! . why "of course?" i assumed she was here on a student visa or perhaps as a resident alien (aka "green card"), in either case she would not have a us passport....are you sure she is a us citizen--i thought she was russian... fun game you guys have going by the way, the one with the players names... ps: hello all, i was just in the neighborhood, so i thought i'd stop by

Hi Melusine, nice to see you around these parts again, hope you'll stop by more often ;D
Re: Daria >> 99% sure she's US citizen - she was born in Russia but left at a very young age. (She was enrolled in a Hebrew middle school in Houston, Texas so she must have been young) She then moved with her mother to California when she was a young teen. I was surprised, apparently she doesn't actually speak as much Russian as I had thought and Marat speaks to her 90% of the time in English....
Anyway, I don't want to go off topic here. Just saw Marat has officially withdrawn from Rosmalen with 'hand injury sustained from RG' and his name is down for an exhibition match in London next week [?] (I think it's the Roehampton qualifying tournament - I don't think it's the Boodle & Dunthorne Classic) I'm going to try and get down there to see that (and see the man himself - finally!! It's been too long!!)

Haha Melusine, great to see you around!! As Ruth says I hope you will stop by more often ;D Ruth thanks for the clarification. Maybe Daria has dual citizenship. It's been too long!!) Ruth I hope this is correct, if it is Marat must still be thinking of wimby, and I so hope you get to see him ;D I could not get this in the box thingy..
