Russian duel on day one Thanks to the 28-player format, the four top seeds at the Zurich Open Lindsay Davenport, Amélie Mauresmo, Mary Pierce and Elena Dementieva all have a bye into the second round. Yet the order of play for the first day of the tournament has some enticing clashes for the first day of main draw competition in the Hallenstadion, which begins at 12.30 local time. At seven in the evening, last year’s French Open champion Anastasia Myskina faces her Fed Cup team-mate Vera Zvonareva in an all-Russian duel. Two hours earlier, in the feature television match of the opening day, Magdalena Maleeva plays what could be the final match of her career. The 30-year-old Bulgarian begins the final tournament of a 16-year career against the 18-year-old rising Russian Anna Chakvetadze. Of Swiss interest, Patty Schnyder plays her first match of the tournament, albeit in doubles. She resumes her partnership with Corina Morariu they were semi-finalists at the French Open this year against the Bulgarian-French pairing of Sesil Karatancheva and Virginie Razzano. The draw can be found here www.zurichopen.net/index.php?pn=tableauGOOD LUCK TO ALL THE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!

From tournament`s official site.... Bad luck strikes twice for Russians It’s a great time for Russian women’s tennis, but it wasn’t a great day at the Zurich Open, with two of the Russian entrants having to withdraw through injury. The French Open semi-finalist Elena Likhovtseva had to retire during her encounter with Silvia Farina Elia - the first main draw match of the tournament - with the Italian leading 2-6 6-4 2-0. Likhovtseva was suffering from a tendon problem in her knee. And not long after, Vera Zvonareva also proved unable to complete her match - an injury to her right shoulder caused her to give up against last year’s French Open champion Anastasia Myskina, with Myskina leading 6-2 2-0.BTW, am I the only one or the tournament`s poster is not nice at all?

Hm, would you agree with me, that the colour of the surface is really bad. You can hardly see the ball
