coolgirl&safin4eva thanks for pics good job Dinara hureeeeee ^_^ ^_^ come on girl good luck for final let's go Dinara rock the world Safina stops Jankovic’s quest for number onesome part from sports.yahoo.com/ten/news?slug=reu-womenladc&prov=reuters&type=lgnsLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Dinara Safina shattered Jelena Jankovic’s chances of securing the women’s number one ranking on Monday with a comprehensive 7-6 6-1 victory in the semi-finals of the Los Angeles Classic on Saturday. Safina will meet Italy’s Flavia Pennetta, who overcame blisters, scorching heat and fervent hometown support to beat American Bethanie Mattek 3-6 6-2 7-5, in the final. Safina, who lost the French Open final to Ivanovic, overpowered Jankovic with a huge service game and more than matched her opponent’s athletic scrambling around the court. The Russian failed to serve out the first set at 5-4, but then capitalized on a series of Jankovic forehand errors in the tiebreak to take it 7-3. Jankovic’s form then completely deserted her in the second set and Safina ran out an easy winner. “She played very well,” said Jankovic. “I had some chances in the first set and then I played a bad tiebreaker. In the second set, I couldn’t go anymore. My legs were shaking a little.” Safina, who has now reached the final in four of her past five tournaments, said her run of good form was due to the work she had been doing with new coach, Zelikko Krajan, and fitness trainer, Dejan Vojnovic. “It’s just clicked,” said Safina. “I’m trusting and listening to them. I know it’s the right way every time I step on court. She will now meet the 10th-seeded Pennetta, who had to fight off three break points at 4-4 in the third set before she sealed victory after two hours 40 minutes on her third match point with a backhand crosscourt return of serve winner. “It was not a great match and I didn’t play my best, but it’s important to win matches like these when you are not playing your best,” Pennetta said. Safina takes title in Los AngelesDinara Safina's excellent season continued as she claimed the East West Bank Classic title in Los Angeles. The fourth seed, who reached the French Open final, beat surprise finalist Flavia Pennetta 6-4 6-2 to win her second title of the year. Pennetta was playing in her 13th singles final but was no match for the big-hitting Russian. Safina, the world number nine, ended Jelena Jankovic's hopes of becoming world number one in the previous round.

Dinara Safina wins East West Bank Classic for 2nd title of the yearCARSON, California: Dinara Safina of Russia won her second title of the year in sweeping aside Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the East West Bank Classic on Sunday. The 22-year-old Safina closed out the 70-minute match with a crosscourt backhand return for her sixth straight service break. Safina was the third player this year to win a tournament after facing a match point, though 10th-seeded Pennetta didn't come close to pressing her that hard. Qualifier Alla Kudryavtseva nearly eliminated fourth-seeded Safina in the third round before she won in a third-set tiebreaker. Safina followed that cliffhanger by bumping off Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and top-seeded Jelena Jankovic to reach her fourth final in her last five tournaments. "It happens like that sometimes," Safina said after her seventh career victory on the WTA Tour. "One match, you pull it out somehow and you start the next day to play better. That's what happened. I was just playing better and better." Safina wasn't as sharp in the final on a warm, breezy afternoon. But she said that considering how badly she wanted the title and how nervous she was, she "played a pretty good match." Safina, world ranked No. 9, will swap places with countrywoman Anna Chakvetadze to a career-high No. 8 in the new list on Monday. Pennetta, who was playing in her first top-level final, said she "didn't serve very well" and "on the important points she (Safina) was playing so good, so aggressive, she didn't give me a lot of chances." Pennetta, a six-time winner on tour, was trying to win her third title this year. Top seeded Chan Yung-jan and Chuang Chia-jung of Taiwan won their seventh doubles title with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 victory over Eva Hrdinova and Vladimira Uhlirova of the Czech Republic. Thanks safin4eva, at least Dinara's keeping us cheerful lately Here's another interesting article: Safina Sweeps to East West Title
July 28, 2008
CARSON – The road to the No1 ranking in women's tennis, it would seem, goes through Dinara Safina. Or not.
It did at this year's French Open final when outplaying Safina completed the progression that placed Ana Ivanovic atop the women's game. It did not here in the semifinals of the East West Bank Classic when Jelena Jankovic, with an opportunity to claim the premier ranking, had Safina deny her.
But as Safina demonstrated this past week, it would be unwise to regard her simply as a player against whom others measure their tennis. The Russian clearly is coming into her own, which she affirmed at The Home Depot Center yesterday with a 6-4, 6-2 conquest of Flavia Pennetta of Italy in the East West final.
Pennetta, now ranked No. 16 on the WTA Tour, said she classifies Safina with Venus Williams, whom Pennetta twice has defeated. If Safina can continue to perform at her current level, Pennetta said, it would not surprise her should Safina win the women's singles phase of the Beijing Olympics or the U.S. Open.
Safina, in her eighth year as a tennis tourist, is 23. Until this year, Marat Safin's sister appeared plump on the court. She wasn't moving well. Like her brother, she also was prone to expressions of pique. She had concussive strokes, but her inability to move well together with her tantrums limited what she could accomplish.
Now, Safina is positively svelte by comparison to her former silhouette. Through her drive here to her first tournament triumph in this country, she never lost her composure.
At one point during her match against Jankovic, Safina said she felt rage building within her. “But I said, 'OK. Bad luck,' ” she said.
She recognizes how much her improved fitness has meant for her. “If you are not fit, you can hit one or two shots, but then you will be out of balance,” she said.
Safina's triumph was worth $95,500 to her and continued a three-month run that had its source when she captured 14 consecutive matches in May. “My team found my game,” she said. “Before, maybe I was a little bit lost on the court. You just have to find the court.”
Her team is composed of Zeljko Krajan, her coach since September, and fitness director Dijan Vojnovic.
In her quarterfinal conquest of Victoria Azarenka and again against Jankovic, Safina had in her judgment played flawless tennis. She was not quite so sharp yesterday.
“It was the final. I was more nervous, but I think for the final I played a pretty good match,” she said. .
