Hi everyone Here are some News from Open Gaz de France: SAFINA WINS CLASH OF THE SISTERSDinara Safina defeated Michaella Krajicek in an exciting first-round match featuring two players whose brothers are also famous in the tennis world. The task faced by Dutch player Michaella Krajicek today was definitely not an easy one. Her opponent, Russia's Dinara Safina, was not only raked 58 spots higher than her in the WTA rankings, but she was also the 2005 Open Gaz de France Champion, while Krajicek, only 18, was playing in the Coubertin stadium for the very first time in her career. But the youngest of the two athletes could find comfort in the statistics as she had won the only match she had played against Safina. The first match of the final draw started at 5PM in front of specators who initially had hard time picking their favorite champion, which is often the case when no French player is involved. Dinara Safina, sister of Russian tennis star Marat Safin, looked fitter than ever but Michaella Krajicek, the sister of former tennis pro Richard Krajicek, soon managed to show she was not going to give her opponent an easy match with her skilled groundstrokes. No game went undisputed, but both players still held their respective serve games, more than often after highly disputed points. The fans were offered as many unforced errors as winners landing very close to the line, but as players adapted to their environment, the central court and the spectators' reaction, their shots became more and more accurate and powerful and led them to a 4-4 tie. That's when Safina, the most experienced of the two players, chose to take charge during the money time and broke the Dutch's serve, helped by an unforced error by Krajicek, to lead 5-4 and serve for the first set. In the meantime, young French fans had chosen their side and were enthusiastically cheering for Safina. Thy soon had extra reasons to rejoice as, understandably shaken by her lost serve game, Krajicek could not prevent the Russian to pocket the first set 6-4. Dinara Safina did her best to ride her momentum when the second set started, hitting very strong shots on both sides to overpower her opponent. But she tried a little too hard and soon had to face Krajicek's renewed confidence. That newfound comfort helped Krajicek come back to 2-2 after getting her serve broken, and even prevent Safina from scoring a single point in the next game. As the second set went on, the quality of the game offered by the two players, which had been very entertaining so far, increased even more with intense rallies as well as powerful and spectacular shots which made fans become even more vocal in the Coubertin stadium. And since the efforts were equally extreme on the two sides of the court, no player was clearly able to take the lead and Safina soon found herself serving to stay in the set, which she successfully did, tying the score at 5-5. Everything then became even more intense, with cheers from the spectators and grunts from the athletes getting louder. In that key game, it's the Russian who lived up to the expectations of her fans and broke the serve of Krajicek, whose energy almost allowed her to come back in the match in the next game. But on a winning backhand, Dinara Safina crushed the Dutch's hopes and eventually won 6-4 7-5. The Russian had logically proved to be the toughest of the two athletes, most obviously in the moments when pressure was high on the two players in both sets. Take Care Happiness

Hi everyone Here are some News from Open Gaz de France: QUOTESWhether they win or they loose, all the players speak to the media when they return from the change-rooms. Here are a few selected quotes.Dinara Safina (who beat Michaella Krajicek 6-4, 7-5): « In the first round you are always a little nervous. I played a good game. I could have done better. But I won so now I have the opportunity to improve my game in the second round. It’s a very challenging tournament; I don’t have any clear objective. I just want to fight for every match and we’ll see what happens. In any case I don’t dread anyone in particular. » Michaella Krajicek (who was defeated by Dinara Safina 4-6, 5-7): « Dinara did a very good match. We already played against each other last year in the final in Rosmalen and I won. Today, my serve wasn’t as good as that day. But apart from that, I was satisfied of my match. I had a chance in the second set but I let it go, that’s my only regret. She was in shape and deserves her victory. » Take Care Kisses Happiness

Hi everyone And a few more News for Open Gaz de France: SAFINA, LOIT VICTOURIOUS AT OPEN GAZ DE FRANCEPARIS, France - Main draw action kicked off at the $600,000 Open Gaz de France on Monday. Dinara Safina was the biggest name to advance, prevailing over teen sensation Michaella Krajicek in a tight two-setter, 64 75. Breaks were scarce in an encounter between two of the most powerful servers on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, but Safina's return game proved too powerful, and the No.7 seed managed one break in the first set and two more in the second en route to the win, avenging a loss to the Dutchwoman in the final of 's-Hertogenbosch last June. Safina is one of two former champions in this week's Open Gaz de France field, winning the Tier II title in 2005. The only other woman here this week to have hoisted the trophy is Amélie Mauresmo, who has won it twice, in 2001 and 2006. The only other main draw competitors to take the court on the opening day were France's own Emilie Loit and Greece's Eleni Daniilidou, with Loit, a wild card into the main draw, prevailing in just under three hours, 76(7) 67(1) 64. Loit has fond memories of this event; last year here, she reached her first Tier II quarterfinal, falling in two tie-breaks to the eventual runner-up, Mary Pierce. The last four additions to the main draw were also determined on Monday as the last round of qualifying took place. Ekaterina Bychkova, Stephanie Cohen-Aloro, Tsvetana Pironkova and Agnes Szavay all reached the 28-player main draw. Two more seeds open their campaigns on Tuesday evening. No.5 seed Nicole Vaidisova kicks off the evening session against French teenager Aravane Rezai, while No.6 seed Patty Schnyder takes on qualifier Bychkova. Take Care Kisses Happiness

Hi everyone And one last update: SAFINA DOWNS KRAJICEKRussian Dinara Safina has reached the Paris Open second round with a 6-4 7-5 victory over Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands.Seventh-seeded Safina, who won the tournament in 2005, made the best of her only opportunity to break in the ninth game to take the first set in 38 minutes. After an early exchange of serve in the second set, Marat Safin's younger sister, 20, broke decisively in the 11th game to lead 6-5. Safina, who won the Gold Coast tournament this year, wrapped up the victory in 85 minutes on her first match point with a winning backhand. She will face either Frenchwoman Camille Pin or Hungarian qualifier Agnes Szavay in the next round. Emilie Loit of France, who benefited from a wild card, needed two hours and 51 minutes to beat Greece's Eleni Daniilidou 7-6 6-7 6-4 on her eighth match point. On Tuesday, Czech fifth seed Nicole Vaidisova takes on Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai while Swiss sixth seed Patty Schnyder starts her challenge against Russian qualifier Ekaterina Bychkova.
