Well the run is over but it was a great one indeed. Well done Dina MELBOURNE, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Lucie Safarova advanced to the final of the Australian hardcourt championships, beating third-seeded Dinara Safina 6-4 6-2 in the semi-finals on Friday. Safarova had already disposed of sixth seed Ai Sugiyama in the first round and top seed Patty Schnyder in the quarter-finals. The 18-year-old Czech, who won her first WTA Tour title at Estoril last year before adding a second at Forest Hills, will face either former world number one Martina Hingis or fourth seed Flavia Pennetta in the final.

In the doubles final, No.2 seeds Dinara and Meghann Shaughnessy routed top seeds Cara Black and Rennae Stubbs 6-2 6-3, capturing their very first Tour doubles title together in only their second partnership. The only previous time they teamed up was in 2004 at Sydney, where they reached the final before falling in three sets to Black and Stubbs. It is Safina’s third career Tour doubles title and Shaughnessy’s 13th.
UDACHI DINA

PARIS, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Defending champion Dinara Safina of Russia thrashed compatriot Anna Chakvetadze 6-2 6-1 to ease into the second round of the Paris Open on Monday.
Absent from the Australian Open because of breathing problems, the 19-year-old Safina appeared to be back to the form that gave her victory over local favourite Amelie Mauresmo in last year's Paris final.
"Paris is one of my best events, seventh-seed Safina told reporters.
"I like the atmosphere and the people here. I can feel comfortable. My recent problems are over and I'm in good shape now," she said.
Mauresmo, returning to action after her maiden grand slam victory in Melbourne last month, was given a first-round bye and will play her opening match of the tournament on Wednesday or Thursday.
French wildcard players, Emilie Loit and Stephanie Foretz reached the last 16.
Foretz claimed the scalp of German eighth-seed Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-1 1-6 6-0, while Loit demolished Italy's Roberta Vinci 6-2 6-1. The French pair will face each other in the next round.
