Addie, especially for you ;D And other Andy fans LOL Queens 2007 finalThis pic says a lot about who Andy is and why I can't stand it when people from this forum make rude comments about him in the tournament threads. Sure, there are a lot of players I don't like, but I don't go on making snide comments about them and placing rude smileys in my messages. I respect everyone's decision to like a certain player. I hope those who do it frequently in this forum, and you know who you are, see this picture and shut their mouths for once. Andy deserved that win.

Andy feast for Addie yay!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D OK. Some people are actually going to faint reading this and I actually cannot believe I am about to say what I am about to say but... This Wimbledon I am rooting for Roddick LOL I know Marat won't win it (he's obviously more than welcome to prove me wrong) and no Russian will (they are also welcome) and since Roger won't do a Slam this year coz he screwed up RG , to make things more fun and to actually see Roger lose a match on grass my number one pick for Wimby 2007 is Mr. Roddick. There, I said it. Gonna go do something drastic now LOL

Andy beats Rafa in Dubai (woot!), then announces Connors is no longer coaching him Roddick and Connors End Coaching Arrangement After his biggest victory in more than four years Thursday, Andy Roddick surprised the tennis world by announcing that he had ended his partnership with coach Jimmy Connors. Roddick fired 17 aces to upset second seed Rafael Nadal 7-6(5), 6-2 to reach the Dubai semifinals. It was the American's first victory over a player ranked No. 2 or higher in more than four years. ( as a side note -- of course he hasn't beaten a player ranked 2 or higher in four years, cause 2 & 1 have been Rafa & Fed, duh *shakes head* :-P ) But the bigger news was that the former World No. 1 had split with Connors one week earlier. Connors had traveled to just one tournament with Roddick in 2008 - the Australian Open. "Jimmy resigned," Roddick said in his post-match media conference. "Our team is just me, (brother) John and (fitness trainer) Doug (Spreen). [It happened] probably about a week ago. I still have the utmost respect for Jimmy and I thank him for his time. "I think it was tough for him to do it part time, maybe not getting exactly the results we wanted... It was amicable. We're friends. I have so much respect for him as a person. I'm sad but thankful for what he was able to give to me and that he could take time out of his retirement and spend it with me. "Communication is tough. When the match isn't on TV and you try to explain where your head is at. We did the mentor role as well as you can from a distance, but when I'm going from Australia to Austria to California to Memphis to Dubai, it becomes difficult. It was a matter of logistics as much as anything." The Connors' Effect Asked what improvements and changes Connors had made to his game, Roddick said: "Playing up in the court. I had to adjust my game. He's helped my backhand a ton. It's a different shot than when we got together. And the fighting spirit. When we got together I was as close to down and out as I've been. I spent the week after Wimbledon as closed to depressed as I've been, as far as my career goes. I really credit him for that spark and getting me back into the Top 5 and a Slam final." Roddick began working with Connors in July 2006 in Indianapolis. At that moment he had fallen outside the Top 10 (he was No. 11) for the first time since October 2002. But he found immediate success with Connors, going 18-2 through the summer hard court season and reaching the US Open final. Roddick's record under Connors was 23-8 in 2006, 54-16 in 2007 and 8-1 in 2008 (through San Jose, where he won his 24th ATP title). His combined record under his time with Connors was 85-25 and he reached as high as No. 3 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings. He won four titles from seven finals during the partnership. Roddick added: "I was keeping him away from the golf course and he likes to walk his dog every morning. But I was happy to have spent some time with a legend." No Replacement Roddick said that he had no immediate plans to find a replacement for Connors, adding that he had eight years of experience at ATP level - and the support of his brother and Spreen - to call upon. "I'm really not too worried about it. Tonight is an example... I know how to play. I'm really not thinking about . I'm happy with John and Doug right now."
Asked if there was a chance he would re-unite with Brad Gilbert, who recently parted company with Andy Murray, Roddick answered: "Absolutely not."
And, Roddick said that he felt confident he could seek advice from Connors from time to time if the need arises. "I don't see him hanging up the phone if I want to ask him a question."

Roddick Out with Pain in NeckAndy Roddick's chances of getting rid of his tag as a one-shot, one-slam wonder suffered a further blow when he was forced to quit the Cincinnati Masters due to injury. "I fell asleep last night and woke up with the lights still on," Roddick said. "I kind of passed out and I'm guessing I was in the wrong position. "I woke up this morning with something in my neck and shoulder and any kind of activity is causing it to flare up. It's kind of a helpless feeling." The former US Open champion has worked hard to add more controlled groundstrokes and volleying to his record-breaking serve. But his persistent shoulder injury, which contributed to his withdrawal from the Ohio event, has raised doubts about whether his decision to miss the Olympics will pay off. Roddick would like to take advantage of the tiredness Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and others may suffer on their return from Beijing to the US Open, which starts a week after the Games. Roddick beat all three Grand Slam titleholders early this year, Nadal and Novak Djokovic in Dubai, and Federer in Miami, raising hopes that he might also get the better of them on similar hard courts in New York. But the world number six has suffered a series of disappointing results since, including a second-round loss to Janko Tipsarevic at Wimbledon. Roddick still hopes to compete in tournaments in Los Angeles and Washington next month. Hope he gets better soon!

Q&A with Andy Roddick By Helin Jung, SI.com NEW YORK -- Earlier this week, SI.com asked readers to submit their questions for Andy Roddick. Roddick, who has been gearing up for the U.S. Open, received hundreds of inquiries. At last night's BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis event in Manhattan, he stepped away from the grill to answer your questions. What are your top goals from now until you retire? -- Jason Mauss of Surprise, Ariz.Well, I'd love to win another Slam. I want to keep being successful in Davis Cup and in playing for the U.S.. If I can just stay consistent, that's what I want to do. You seem to sweat more than most other players on tour. Do you have to regrip during matches or do you just switch to new racquets? --Hunter Haisten, Chelsea, Ala.There's a lot of toweling off in between points, and a lot of trying to hydrate before matches. Unfortunately, that's something that's out of my control, so you kind of just deal. Your 2003 Australian Open quarterfinal against Younes El Aynaoui is often regarded as one of the greatest tennis matches in history. What is the best tennis match you've ever seen? -- Gregory Mathews, MilwaukeeI think it just happened. I think it was Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at Wimbledon this year. It was amazing. It seemed like it was all anyone was talking about for a couple of days, which was nice, considering it happened in Europe. Coming home and hearing people excited about it was a great thing. What do you think of Rafael Nadal as the new top-ranked player in the world? Do you think he'll outlast Federer's consecutive 237 weeks at the top? --Aida Mendoza, Manila, PhilippinesNo. To say anybody would be No. 1 for four years is a tall ask. Rafa, if anyone, is certainly capable. I definitely am happy for him and I think he deserves it. He'd been No. 2 for a while and you know had had a better career than a lot of guys who'd achieved No. 1, including myself. He deserved a spot, and I think everyone's generally pretty happy for him. How do you think getting married will affect you? --Clifton LaSalle, Scituate, Mass.[Laughs] I'm really happy in my personal life right now. It's nice to have something solid and I see that can only help as far as my job goes. (awwww ) Andy, what's your take on the Blake/Gonzalez controversy at the Olympics? What would you have done if you were in either guy's shoes? --Daniel Koontz, Bloomingdale, NJI've given away matches before, reversing calls against myself, so I can understand both sides, but I know Fernando said he doesn't know if the ball hit his racquet or not, I feel like that's something you would know one way or the other. If I stepped on your foot, you would feel it. I can understand the frustration, but it is what it is. Much was made of Phelps' expansive diet at the Olympics. Do you eat differently during a tournament? -- Mia, Washington, D.C.No. I don't spend 36 hours in a pool a week either. [Laughs] I think if you start eating well during a tournament, it's probably too late. It becomes more of a lifestyle as opposed to when you're playing a tournament. You pretty much have to eat well all the time. You've lost some weepers in finals in your career, notably to the Fed Express. What one match's outcome would you most want to change? --Jonathan Scott, IndianapolisIt's tough. I would take any of the three Grand Slam finals I've lost to him. In 2004 at Wimbledon, I felt like I was the closest. Probably the one I think about the most. I felt like I was getting the best of him, and then the rain delay happened and it kind of changed the momentum of the match. That's probably the one I would want back. It's impossible not to think of those matches. When one of your dreams is staring you in the face and you're this close, and you don't get it, you think about it. I realize my worst day is a lot of people's best day, so I think it may be disrespectful to dwell on it too long. That being said, being a competitor, you want to play well, so I normally am pissed off for a few hours and then settle down a little bit. Can you find the strength within yourself to not break racquets anymore and give them to underprivileged children? --Tamille Hawkins, Washington, D.C.That's a good question. To be fair, a lot of the racquets that I break do go to various charities. For some reason, people actually like the broken ones sometimes. Two birds, one stone. I give them all away. I don't really have much use for them after the fact. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/tennis/08/22/qa.roddick/index.html
