MUMBAI: It was a sight that will remain etched in memory for quite sometime.

The rains, as expected, played spoilsport, sending one and all scurrying for cover midway through the second set of the singles final of the Kingfisher Airlines Tennis Open. But it failed to dampen the spirits of the organisers, who came out fully armed with vacuum cleaners, driers and whichever towel they could lay their hands upon. No, they didn’t just include the Globosport crew.

Mario Ancic and his coach too actively participated in the court-drying exercise, along with Mahesh Bhupathi and his wife Shvetha. The world number 10 from Croatia wiped the court himself, squeezing out the excess water, and kept repeating the act for close to 30 minutes.

The collective effort didn’t go waste. The side court was battle-ready in less than an hour’s time for the doubles final.

Okay mish!, just for you so your gf-curiosity will be satisfied . The interview was conducted by a Geman tennis magazine in June 2006 (thanks for the guys at MTF for translating it):

"Perhaps I become a lawyer"
He is 22 years young, scarcely two meters largely and firmly decided to be established in the Top Ten. Mario Ancic speaks about its study, friend and the extended family in Croatia.

Q: Mario, it runs straight very well for you, you stands in the world rank list as highly as never. There still does time for other things than tennis remain?
A: A little. I study beside law and must therefore very much learn. I have my books on the route always thereby.

Q: Isn't that arduous?
A: But, already. I often believed that I do not get it. But my parents always rebuild me. They are interested very much in the fact that I lock the study.

Q: Would you like to work later than lawyer?
A: Perhaps. Only once I must create and then times look the conclusion, what brings the life in such a way. I would like to keep myself many possibilities open.

Q: That sounds rather native.
A: One must think of the future.

Q: Your brother accompanied you some time on the route. What now does it make?
A: He married in the last year and has now a daughter.

Q: You are thus uncle.
A: Yes, and I am madly proud. The small one is the favourite of the family.

Q: But you plan still no children?
A: No, no.

Q: Do you have a girfriend?
A: Yes, she is at home in Croatia. We know and already since the childhood, were in former times neighbours.

Q: Isn't it difficult to have a relationship if you are as much on the way?
A: It goes. We know each other already for a long time and trust and completely. And fortunately there are mobile phones.

Q: Do you miss your family?
A: Naturally. All in my family have a very close relationship to each other. My father has six brothers and two sisters. Family meetings are thus always with us a large event. Unfortunately I can be mostly only Christmas thereby.

Q: Do you have friends on the route?
A: With Jarkko Nieminen and Thomas Johansson I am well friendly. I know Raemon Sluiter very well, also.

Q: Do you go out from time to time together?
A: Sometimes we go together with dinner.

Q: And on parties?
A: If I am on tournaments, I do not go celebrating. I make that, if I am at home in Croatia. There I try to be a normal 22-years old guy (lol i dont know how can i translate "Jähriger"), as my friends.

Q: What for humans private are you?
A: I try to be always honest. In addition I am humans, who do not interfere gladly in other people affairs. If someone asks me for assistance, am I there. But I would never force myself upon.

Q: In which city do you play dearest? T
A: hat is difficult. I like Munich, there I played last and next to last year. The city is very beautiful.

Q: Did you try the beer there?
A: No, I do not drink beer.

Q: No alcohol?
A: From time to time already, but not much. Perhaps times a glass red wine with dinner, that should be also very healthy.

Q: How do you drive yourself out tracing on the route?

Q:On which music do you stand?
A: I hear gladly Croatian music. Otherwise mah I the direction "old skirt". I find Guns'n Roses, U2 and Bruce Springsteen good.

A: I wanted to become always sportsmen. In former times I played football, basketball and wasserball.

Q: Are you content with your career?
A: I am very lucky, as everything ran. I improved year by year, won olympic bronze medal (2000 in the double with Ivan Ljubicic, talk.) and the Davis Cup. There are not many 22-years old guy, which can maintain that from itself
