You´re welcome, alisha and SAFINNO1, ;D I´m sorry for Gastón and Agustín, but they are broadcasting the matches!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D It was my fault!!!!! ;D ;D I watched both matches!!! Gastón was defeated by JC Ferrero 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. It was a great match! Gastón`s backhand (his best shot) was not working as usual, and this was a big problem for him. But I´m happy for JC..... Agustín Calleri was defeated, too, by Nadal 6-2, 3-0 and retired. He had problems in his back...... Bad thing.... That could have been a great match!!! He could not serve and he couldn´t be in the position for recieving Nadal´s serve. Anyway, it was better retiring, a wise decision: two clay MS and RG are coming soon...... Agustin Calleri receives treatment on his back

First round matches..... Munich:Nalbandian-Lapenti Mónaco-Burgsmueller Acasuso-Ancic Estoril:Chela- Q (not known yet) Calleri-Machado (WC from Portugal) Gaudio-Hernych In Fed Cup Spain defeated Argentina 3-2 "The Spanish squad held off a determined comeback from visiting Argentina to advance to the 2005 Fed Cup semifinals by a 3-2 score, clinching the tie at their third opportunity after Argentine wins in both reverse singles rubbers."from: www.fedcup.com/news/matchreport.asp?id=10619I´ll try to translate this in the best way (with some Babel Fish help ). For those who understand spanish, here´s the link (it´s from ATP spanish site): www.atptennis.com/es/newsandscores/news/2005/barcelona_nalbandian.aspNalbandian returns in MunichDavid Nalbandian accepted the special invitation of the organization of the Munich tournamentand and will reappear next week in this German ATP, without being totally recovered from the hepatic virus that affects him since the Masters Series of Indian Wells. The calendar of the Argentinean until Roland Garros will continue with the Masters Series of Rome (defends the points of the final where he was defeated by Carlos Moyá) and Hamburg. In the French Open he reached semifinal last year. "I could not train to the 100%, but always I kept active. Still I do not feel totally recovered, but I evolved (recovered a little ) and I will play in Munich to try to adapt to clay", Nalbandian said. He didn´t play in this kind of surface in the ATP tour since Roland Garros 2004 (he did so in Davis Cup playing against the Czech team in March). During his recovery, he combined training with the practice of golf: on Wednesday he played with profesional César Monasterio the Pro Am in the Abierto del Centro de la República (Center of the Republic Open, strange name, BTW for a golf open. Córdoba, David´s province, is considered the center of Argentina and it´s a mediterranean province) , in Argentina. From the list of the german tournament two argentine players withdraw: Mariano Zabaleta and Mariano Puerta. Nalbandian will be first seeded and the second will be russian Nikolay Davydenko.
I supose there´s not much to be expected from David..... Good luck! Nicolás Lapenti, the player against which he`ll play his first round match, reached semifinal in Houston´s clay tournament this week

Good to see David back and hopefully he can be good for Rg Once agin thanks Lau for your extensive commitment towards your fellow countrymen and keeping all us minors up to date with possibly the most intriguing country(tennis wise) in the world. You`re welcome, again, SAFINNO1. I´m glad you like my posts. Narrow escape for Gaudio in Estoril first round By Barnanby Chesterman
ESTORIL, Portugal, April 25 (Reuters) - French Open champion Gaston Gaudio admitted he gave a Jekyll and Hyde performance ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D as he laboured to a first round victory over Czech Jan Hernych at the Estoril Open on Monday.
The number two seeded Argentine, who reached a career high ranking of five after making the quarter-final in Barcelona last week, survived a match point in the second set before running away to win 6-7 7-5 6-0 on the Portuguese clay.
"There were two Gastons out there today, a bad one and a good one," he said. "I wasn't moving well but I had some luck on the match point and then started playing better."
Hernych, ranked 71 places below Gaudio, was coping better with the blustery conditions in a topsy turvy opening two sets and served for the match at 5-4 in the second.
But after losing his match point his game collapsed and thereafter he won only a handful of points.
Gaudio, who has already won two tournaments this year on clay in Vina del Mar and Buenos Aires, said the match turned on the end of the second set
"I saw that he was having problems closing out the match and was feeling nervous so when he missed badly on an important point, that gave me the confidence to turn it around," he said.
Looking forward to the French Open, the Argentine added: "Last year when I won at Roland Garros I wasn't one of the favourites but this year I will go with more confidence," he said.
Earlier in the day former world number four Jelena Dokic crashed out of the WTA tour event 6-2 3-6 6-2 at the hands of Ukraine's Alyona Bondarenko.
Sixth seed Dally Randriantefy of Madagascar made short work of Portuguese qualifier Neuza Silva, winning 6-2 6-2.
That would be nice to watch. I wouldn`t say it`s strange, but I would love to watch a match where Gastón fights until the end and/or in the end ;D ;D (He allways does this when he plays Davis Cup.... most of the times ). I know I previously said his most important weakness was a mental one, and it´s true, but he´s definitively better than in 2004 in this aspect..... ;D ;D That`s good!!! Maybe the RG title gave him a little more confidence. BTW, he works with a psychologist since the beginning of 2004 if I´m not wrong (this is not personal, SAFINNO1 ;D ;D ) And he`s again the nº1 argentine tennis player: 5º in the Entry Ranking and 8º in the Champions Race. About Zabaleta: 4 or 5 weeks of complete rest Some doctors recommended surgery and some rest. He decided to have rest. It´s difficult translating the kind of injury he`s got.... looks pretty serious (spanish link with more details: www.atptennis.com/es/newsandscores/news/2005/montecarlo_zabaleta.asp ) "Rain forced the cancellation of all matches at the BMW Open by Credit Suisse on Monday. First round action will commence on Tuesday in Munich." So, no news from David.....(and Mónaco and Acasuso).. Chela`s first match in Estoril will be against Lucky Loser J Marin (CRC). Last year Chela defeated Marat 67 63 63 in the final And bad news for Guillermo Coria about today`s rankings.... He`s 11º in Champions Race and 10º in Entry Ranking..... Well, they are not BIG bad news... I think (and I heard this from some argentine journalists/former tennis players, too) that Guillermo is adapting to what probably is a new training program after his surgery. He changed coach. His coach now is Perlas, former Moya´s coach when he was nº1 and I think that was Costa`s coach too, when he won RG. This may sound funny, but Guillermo looks a little bigger. ;D He´s making too many unforced errors.... specially when we`re talking about clay courts matches.... I really hope his present performance is the result on an investment that will give him some benefits in the future .

lau what do u think of Gaudio's form as i saw some of the match against Jan and he looks really troubled i seriously see him going through a bad patch as he failed to conjure any momentum. But then again he is still grinding the victories.

lau what do u think of Gaudio's form as i saw some of the match against Jan and he looks really troubled i seriously see him going through a bad patch as he failed to conjure any momentum. But then again he is still grinding the victories. As you know, I didn`t watch his match against Nadal in Monte Carlo, neither his first match against Mantilla in Barcelona or yesterday`s match. I watched his matches against Ferrer and Ferrero in Barcelona. In this two matches, his backhand was failing and that`s bad because it`s his best shot. He fought in those matches. I liked that (As I said previously I didn`t watch his match against Nadal because I had a hunch about it )You can compare Gastón with Marat in this aspect: you never know what to expect when he`s on court. It´s very disappointing watching him sometimes and he`s allways unhappy with his performance during the match. He`s allways saying to himself during matches: You`re awfull!! or Horrible!! or I can`t play!!!, etc, etc It seems he`s allways loosing, even when he`s winning.... specially when the spectator understands spanish ;D I read a little about his match today and they said that his backhand was not as good as usual again (I consider his backhand a real piece of art ;D ;D The best or one of the best one-handed ones in the tour). But I don´t know if this is true..... If this is happening to him, he`ll continue having problems.. What I meant with all this is that he`s probably going through a bad patch, but he`s definitively better in the "mental aspect" than previous years. And he`s having better results than in previous years. Consider this: He has got 5 titles and 7 finals during all his career, that began in 1996. During 2004 and this 4 months of 2005 he won 3 titles (including RG) and reached 4 finals!!!! In addition to this, he won his only 2 doubles titles during 2004 (Estoril and Viña del Mar)!!!!!!!Since the beginning of 2004 he´s other player. That`s the reason why I find funny the "Jekyll and Hyde" metaphor of the article I posted previously. That`s Gastón!!! I can`t tell you if he`ll do great or disastrously in the next tournaments. I have faith in him, but he can allways surprise me (in a bad or good way )... What you`re saying about his match against Jan sounds 100% Gaudio If he`s not troubled, he seems to be troubled..... Anyway, he`s one of my favourites!!! (No, I`m not a masochist ;D ;D ;D)Results:MunichNalbandian d. Lapentti 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 That`s good!!... (BTW, Nicolás Lapentti is from Ecuador. If you read the international news lately you may know that maybe other things are going through his mind these days.... I don`t know ... )Mónaco d. Burgsmuller 7-5, 6-3 Well done Juan!! His next match is against Paradorn Srichaphan. Ancic d. Acasuso 6-2, 6-4 Argentine newspapers say that Acasuso didn´t play in his level.... But, these are argentine newspapers and I didn`t watch the match... Maybe Mario played very well That`s very possible... EstorilCalleri d. Machado 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 I´m happy Agustin´s problem in the match against Nadal was not a serious one His next match is against Marín (who won his match against Chela).Marín d. Chela 6-1, 6-2 Ouch! That must hurt!! Chela was the defending champion and was defeated by a Lucky Looser.... David in Germany

There have been some speculation here about something that Rafael supposedly said during his match against Gaudio in Monte Carlo (a nasty insult). I really don´t think Nadal said that , but I didn`t watch the match and I heard about this from several programs (tv and radio)..... so, I can`t say if this is true or false.... Anyway, this was said by Nadal in an argentine radio program. In english:"The argentines are very dangerous" said the spanish Rafael Nadal when he was asked about the toughest rivals in Roland Garros. "I don´t have any problem with any of them and yes, I have a great relationship with Juan Mónaco, my playstation partner." added the tennis player of the moment, 2º in the Champions Race and 7º in the Entry Ranking

really?? I've heard nothing.... Yeah, that`s what it`s said .....(and supposedly there are video proofs if you look /hear at them carefuly. This was shown in a TV program I didn´t watch...) I really don`t believe it, but if it`s true I would disappointed (not very much , just for a while). Anyway, he´s just a kid (I´m older than him ;D ;D) and I can understand it with all the pressure and Gastón saying to him to stop making faces (mmmm...., Gastón...... : at him, etc. For me it´s not important really, but Nadal´s image in Argentine (whether this is true or not) needs to be improved if he wants to come back to the Buenos Aires Open next year....... Those are the kind of things the public in a stadium doesn´t forgive (and that`s sad) That`s why I consider important what he said in that radio program. It`s just a sport!!!! (and I`m writting too much about this ;D ;D ;D) Let`s go to the important things..... As far as I know, two argentine players injured today In Munich´s tournament site: Wednesday 17:30 PM: Double Mayer (Ger)/Waske (Ger) vs. Acasuso (Arg)/Monaco Arg) cancelled - Acasuso injured That`s too bad!!! And in Estoril: Calleri retired in his match against Lucky Looser Marín with back injury again. This doesn`t look good. Specially when you`re 28 or 29 years old . The match score is 4-6, 1-3 and ret. From what I read, he fought in his first set but couldn`t do nothing in the second one And the good news , finally : Gaudio defeated another Czech player, Tabara. This time, as you can see from the score, it seems to be a good match for Gastón, 6-2, 6-1. I hope this gives him more confidence and I supose (the match wasn`t broadcasted here) his backhand finally started to work . His next match is against Feliciano Lopez. Tough match!! (I don´t know why, but I don´t like Lopez.... Do you remember a match against Marat where he was serving before Marat was prepared? Marat said something to him in spanish on court about his attitude during that match. It was in 2004, I don´t remember which tournament...... I don´t like him... And he didn´t behaved well too in a final against Cañas in Asia last year ....)

MunichNalbandian d.Lukzac 62 62 ;D ;D ;D ;D He said this after the match (from ATP site): “I think I played very, very good today. I had a great feeling. He couldn’t do to many things because I made everything really well. I hope to continue like this for the rest of the week.”<br> I’m much more confident after this match, I didn’t play for a while. I had a virus for two months and it was very tough for me to come back and play my first match. I didn’t feel very well in my first match, but today I felt much better. The sun was out and I feel great.”Mònaco d. Srichaphan 76 26 63 Their next match will be between them!
