ESPN Chat with Mitya
Buzzmaster: (4:29 PM ET ) Okay gang Dmitry will be here soon, so keep the questions coming!
Wilson (San Fran): Your ATP blogs are solid man. Do you desire a writing career once you can no longer hang with the boys on the hard court
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:31 PM ET ) Well I wasn't planning on it, but after this year I may have to consider it.
Matt: What is your opinion about the Davis Cup? Do you like playing in it?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:33 PM ET ) Yes I do like the Davis Cup, although there is quite a bit of pressure that goes along with it. But it is fun to be on a team, especially our team, we have a lot of fun together. But when you go on the court there is a lot of pressure since you are representing your country. So it is a mixed bag.
Fumus Albany, NY: What's your fitness routine like? How many heavy lifting days, how many days cardio, what sorta things/exercises does your trainer make you do?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:35 PM ET ) It is kind of hard to break it up in exact numbers because it depends on what I am doing on the court. It is hard to go with a cardio routine if my legs are tired from playing. I do things in the weight room, but there is more emphasis on the lower body as far as running drills for the legs. And at the end of each day I do a little Kama Sutra to keep limber.
madison, wisconsin: Why earlier in the year @ hopman Cup did have like 4 different rackets you were playing with?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:36 PM ET ) They were all the same. We started off kind of bad, and me being a very cunning player I decided to have the same rackets but paint them in four different colors to mess with my opponents head. So it was a trick.
Inge Berger, Vienna - Austria: Have you attacked any animals since the koala in Melbourne and the sealionin La Serena? Do I need to call PETA to save the dolphins in Miami?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:38 PM ET ) No I haven't attacked any since then. But I have taken a lot of sun dried Koalas from Australia so I am fine as far as animals go. But I may start attacking people soon if I don't start winning.
Boulder, Colorado : Is it true that you post in the tenniswarehouse forums from time to time under a fake name?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:39 PM ET ) I do post but usually on the change overs. I got a new blackberry so that helps!
Mike (Oregon): If you could win one Grand Slam Tournament which one would it be? Why?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:40 PM ET ) I wouldprobably go with Wimbeldon because of the tradition. But at this point it is not like I have a choice so I will go with whatever I can get.
Meg (NY): Who is the coolest guy on the tour, and who is the biggest dork?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:41 PM ET ) I'm the coolest guy and Roger is the biggest dork.
Westwood NJ: Who is your toughest opponent that you find the most challenging to defeat. Do you think that Roger Feder is the greatest player of all-time.
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:43 PM ET ) In regards to Roger, yes. His record speaks for itself. And my most challenging opponent it is kind of hard to say because I don't lose to someone constantly, so I would say I am my toughest opponent.
Meredith (Miami): I can't wait for the Key Biscayne tournament to start! What is your favorite part about coming down to Miami?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:44 PM ET ) Alligators. And the overall atmosphere of Miami, it is somewhat European. I like the blend of U.S., Latin, and European culutres the city has to offer.
Mel, Santa Monica, CA: What are you doing to prepare for the clay court season? Do you still hate playing on clay?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:46 PM ET ) Well I don't really hate it, I despise it. But that being said I think that I have been slowly improving on the surface. And practicing on clay helps prepare me for other surfaces. I am enjoying the self-mutilation of always losing on clay and then going to a regular surface and playing much better once the clay season is over.
Marie, Boston: Is there something wrong with Safin? First Andreev, then Yeltsin, even Volkov, but no kiss for Marat? We are ready and waiting with cameras in case you change your mind.
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:48 PM ET ) Well you should probably spend more time at the Fisher Island and maybe that is where all the kissing is happening, you never know.
Matt (Columbus, Ohio): Do you feel confident that you can make a deep run into any of the majors or other tournaments this year?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:50 PM ET ) I do, but that does not mean that I will. I mean a lot of times you can get better and work hard, but then one day you have a bad day and there goes your chance. I don't think you can predict that you will do well, but I do think that you can have confidence in your self. I do have the confidence, but it does not mean anything because I still have to go out and play.
Alessandra, Napoli: are you typing the answers yourself or are you too scared to make your wrist injury worse?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:50 PM ET ) No I am having Marat type.
Napa, CA: Any new cars these days? Still have the black corvette?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:51 PM ET ) No the corvette died in the fields on Sacramento. Unless you want to donate some money for a new car fund.
Stu (Niles,Mi): Who makes the biggest impactin your tennis life?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:54 PM ET ) It is hard to say because there have been many people who have helped me starting with my father and my many coaches in Russia, and the coaches in the U.S. But it is hard to say who had the biggest impact. But if I had to pick I would have to say my father because he introduced me to the game and pushed me for years, he gave up a lot for me. So he had the biggest impact on me, seeing all that he gave up for me.
Mitch (Columbus, OH): Hi Dmitry! So, after traveling all over the world, where is your favorite food? Which places do you look forward to eating?
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:56 PM ET ) I think my stomach is more like a garbage disposal so I can digest anything I eat. I can say what i like more, I like Russian food, Italian, Thai, and more. Johnny Rockets is good.
Dmitry Tursunov: (4:58 PM ET ) I talked to Maria Sharapova today and she said hi to me, which was really cool. You in the chat are the first to know about this. Thanks for the questions. Bye.
