Davydenko Leads Seeded Casualties
Florent Serra recorded only his fifth career win over a Top 10 star at the Dutch Open in Amersfoort on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Frenchman had a remarkable turn-around in fortunes to beat World No. 5 Nikolay Davydenko 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Davydenko, who led by one set and had broken serve in the first game of the second set, collapsed to his second successive first round exit – and fifth of the year – in one hour and 40 minutes. The 26-year-old won 33 of 89 points in the final two sets.
Serra has won back-to-back matches on the ATP circuit once this year, when he reached the ATP Masters Series third round (l. to Lopez). He improves to 12-18 this season.
Davydenko, who was making his first appearance since 2002, drops to 4-4 at the event. He has a 32-19-match record in 2007.
Clay is his favourite surface right
Come on Nikolay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frenchman Gilles Simon posted the biggest victory of his career as he defeated No. 2 seed and No. 4 ranked Nikolay Davydenko (above) 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in two hours and 16 minutes.
The 22-year-old Frenchman led 5-0 in the final set before the Russian rallied back, saving four match points to cut the deficit to 5-3. Davydenko then had eight break points in the ninth game but Simon escaped to secure his third Top 10 victory of the season (3-4).
Davydenko only converted 3 of 19 break point chances (1 of 10 in the third set) while Simon was four of nine on break points.
It was Davydenko's third consecutive opening round loss, all coming in three sets to Frenchmen. He lost to Gael Monfils in Gstaad two weeks ago and Florent Serra in Amersfoort last week.
Somebody get this guy back on hard court - he is playing in sopot next week - another clay tournament. Surely it wont be a fourth week in a row!
COME ON NIKOLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Davydenko forced to retire in second round at Sopot August 2, 2007 SOPOT, POLAND (TICKER) -- Nikolay Davydenko will not be defending his title at the Orange Prokom Open. The top-seeded Russian was forced to retire from his second-round match with Martin Vassallo Arguello of Argentina at the $580,000 claycourt tournament with a left foot injury on Thursday. Davydenko, who topped Florian Mayer for one of his 10 career titles here last year, was trailing, 2-6, 6-3, 2-1, when he was forced to stopped. "Normally I try to fight to the end, but it was very painful and I may have done even more damage by trying to finish the match," the world No. 4 said. "Since the beginning of Monday, I've had a problem with my left toes. Today, that became a problem with my foot and now I have two problems in the one area." The injury continued a tough stretch for the 26-year-old Russian, who had dropped his previous three matches prior to the start of this event. Since a fourth-round loss to Marcos Baghdatis at Wimbledon, Davydenko is 1-4 on clay. Despite the latest setback, Davydenko plans to start his preparation for the U.S. Open next week. "I now have 4-5 days to get my foot ready for the start of my hardcourt season at the Masters in Canada," he said. "I hope everything will be okay." hope so too
