when he was 11 Nikolay left his parents to live with his brother Edouard in Volgograd. He left because he wanted to play tennis, and at the time, Russia seemed to offer more opportunities for him. At 15 they left for Germany because a Russian who lived there convinced his brother it would be better for him, he he was granted Russian citizenship when he was 18.

Oh boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS KOLYA!!!!!!!! For those of you who are interested I must say that yesterday was a big day for Kolya. In 4 years he's been entering Wimbledon, yesterday he won his first match EVER there after he beat Scott Draper in 3 sets ;D ;D ;D I watched the match and my heart went out to him. He soooooooo struggled on grass playing in a very clay manner but he won't be Kolya if he didn't fight till the end and the spirit was rewarded Molodets Kolya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Udachi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
