MILAN, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Russian Igor Andreev won his second career ATP title with a 0-6 6-1 6-3 victory over Italy's Filippo Volandri in the final of the Sicily International in Palermo on Sunday. Andreev, who won his first singles title at Valencia in April, recovered from a disastrous opening set and his serving eventually proved too much for Volandri who was also searching for his second title. The Russian had beaten Italy's bright young hope Andreas Seppi in Saturday's semi-final while Volandri reached the final via a victory over German Tomas Behrend. Andreev went into this week's tournament ranked 37th in the world while Volandri, Italy's topped ranked player, was four places behind him.

from ATP site Slow-Starting Andreev Rallies to Win Title Unseeded Russian Igor Andreev earned his second career ATP title by beating local favourite and No. 6 seed Filippo Volandri, 0-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the final of the 54th edition of the Campionati Internazionali di Sicilia in Palermo. Andreev, who had won his first career title in April in Valencia, his first clay court event of 2005, closes the 2005 ATP clay court season in style by becoming the first Russian winner in Palermo. Andreev improves his 2005 W-L record to 33-29, earns 35 INDESIT ATP 2005 Race points and ˆ44,100. Volandri, who had lost only 15 games in reaching his second consecutive Palermo final, started strongly by winning the first set at love in 16 minutes dropping only eight points but Andreev broke him in the first game of the second set and raced to a 4-0 lead. Trailing 6-0, 1-6, 1-4, Volandri broke back but was broken once more serving at 3-4 and Andreev served out the match at love in the next game. Andreev beat Nicolas Almagro, Francesco Aldi, Alberto Martin and Andreas Seppi on his way to the final. Volandri lost in the Palermo final for the second consecutive year and was looking to win his first title of 2005. . WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID Andreev: "I wasn't prepared in the first set, I could not warm up properly. When I broke him in the first game of the second set, the match turned around. That was the key. I started feeleing better and took control of the match. I am really happy because I stayed cool and focused and did not get mad at myself after losing the first set so badly." "I am a bit sad that the clay court season is finishing but hope I will carry this form on to the indoor tournaments. I think my game is more suited to clay as I seem to find a way to win even if I'm not playing my best tennis." Volandri: "I will win here one day, I promise. I am really disappointed as I wanted to win my first ATP title in Italy. I started very well but against someone like him you have to play 100% each point. The third set was very close but I was unlucky on a couple of occasions. He really impressed me in the last two sets, he got everything back." "I'm happy with my season though I had an injury in the middle of it which slowed me down. I got to No. 28 (in the INDESIT ATP Ranking) in May and I hope I can play an injury-free season next year."

i watched this match happily from the start of the 2nd set and it was plain sailing all the way. Interesting how he has performed recently on clay i think he has put his name down as a player you dont wanna play early at RG next year. Lets hope he can continue his form indoors

I hope indoors won't trigger that injury worsening..change of surface can do nasty things
