lol... Nadal: "I am enjoying it" Nadal upsets Djokovic in a great match and faces Davydenko for a place in the Italian Open's final 12/05/2007 Igor Andreev is sick and tired. Sick and tired of being asked for an interview. Sick and tired of saying "no" to the most prestigious newspapers of the world. Sick and tired of being harassed by the media, by the cameras, that everybody wants to investigate about his life, his injuries, about the reasons that made him be the hope of Russian tennis by holding the number 177 spot among the best players of the planet. Andreev, raised in Valencia, who has only won three titles in his entire career, is the focus of attention in all the tournaments. And he got used to say no. To only care about himself. And to pull a long face by the question he has been asked many times, always, wherever he is, lose or win, packs or unpacks his staff: “Igor, ¿how to beat Rafael Nadal on clay?"(...) The Spaniard has won his matches on clay this year over Federer, Djokovic, Cañas and Berdych, the best players on tour. And no one has won a set. No one has found a way to put him in trouble. And that’s why the locker rooms on the tour are getting filled with Russian dictionaries. Everyone wants to ask Igor Andreev a question”.www.elpais.com/articulo/deportes/Estoy/disfrutando/elpepudep/20070512elpepidep_15/Tes

Russian aces eying Parisian glory Thursday, April 26, 2007By Christian LacazeAndreev the SpaniardAlthough little known among the general public, Igor Andreev’s name already features in the tennis history books, for as the 2007 season began, he was the last player to have defeated Rafael Nadal on clay… way back in 2005! The previous year, he reached the quarter-finals in Paris before losing to that year’s winner Gaston Gaudio after having eliminated Juan Carlos Ferrero, the title-holder at the time. The following year, he underlined his talent by winning his first three tournaments and overcoming the “invincible” Majorcan. Unfortunately for him, the 2006 season was ruined by an injury to his left knee that forced him to go under the surgeon’s knife. As a result, his world ranking in early April beyond the 200 mark is not a true reflection of his level. Having been trained in Spain near Valencia, like Safin, this powerful 23-year-old baseline player knows all the ins and outs of the surface. In the first round of the Davis Cup between his country and Chile at the start of the year, he won the tie almost single-handedly by overcoming Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu on their home soil. Could Andreev be the one to emulate his countryman “Kafel” in Paris? ...It is probably fair to say that the remaining Russian green shoots of talent are still a little tender on clay to shoulder this great legacy. The ebullient Dmitry Tursunov is more at ease on fast surfaces, while the very young Evgeny Korolev (19 years of age) is still one for the future. A player oozing promise, he will be in Paris to learn, even if he did get himself noticed in 2006 by pushing Gaston Gaudio to five sets. He will no doubt be looking to his elders to show him the way… just as another Yevgeny (Kafelnikov) did for them. www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/news/articles/2007-04-26/200704261177615796640.html
