Patty Schnyder loses to Amelie Mauresmo in Antwerp Written by Nina Saturday, 18 February 2006 Patty Schnyder lost in the quarterfinals at the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp against the defending Champion, the Number 2 seed Amelie Mauresmo 2-6 4-6. The French continued her impressive run with her 13th straight victory.
Two days before Patty got a flu with 39 degrees fever. She had to go into the local hospital for medication. Today she felt better and she decides to play.
In the first games Patty could hold the match open, then she was broken twice by Mauresmo. In the second set broke the French to a 3-1 lead. Patty gave her best, but that was not enough against a strong serving Mauresmo and after 1 hour 6 minutes the World Number 2 had won the match.
"It wasn't easy today. Patty had been ill a couple of days and then you never know what to expect. In-between the points I also saw how many difficulties she sometimes had breathing", Mauresmo said, "But my level was ok, I'm satisfied."
This defeat marked Patty's second loss to Mauresmo this season after the Australian Open.In the head-to-head Mauresmo leads now 12-5 against the Swiss, who lost the last 5 matches against the French.
Patty has not decided yet if she will play at the Dubai Duty free Open next week. Maybe she will take a break until the NASDAQ-100 Open in Miami, which starts on March 20th.
Congratulations to Amelie

She is playing unbeleivably ever since her win at the WTA champs last year. She really is fulfilling her promise and the rest of the players better watch out!

Mauresmo retains title in Antwerp Amelie Mauresmo recovered from a set down to repeat her Australian Open semi-final win over Kim Clijsters and retain her Diamond Games title. Number one seed Clijsters began in blistering fashion, breaking Mauresmo twice to win the opener comfortably. But the pace of the match began to tell on the Belgian and Mauresmo hit back to seal a 3-6 6-3 6-3 win, her 15th straight win and third title this year. "Once I found my rhythm I made very few mistakes," said the 26-year-old. Clijsters, who was undone by a series of errors late on in her comeback event after three weeks out with an ankle injury, admitted: "I came up a bit short and I felt it in my legs. "I had my chances but it's been a tough week and I thinks it just took its toll. "But Amelie played very well and is a tough opponent. Since her Masters victory (in November) and at the Australian Open, she has stepped up a level." The victory means Mauresmo heads for next week's Dubai Open in the knowledge that she will replace Clijsters as world number one if she reaches the final. "I just take it one tournament at a time and I know I will be tired when I get to Dubai, so who knows," she said. "Yes, it would be a nice bonus to be number one, but it won't be on my mind."

CONGRATULATIONS AMELIE ^_^ !! Hey, if she wins Antwerp again in the three years to come, she will win the diamond rackett for true, I think that's a big present !! (Last year, Venus very very nearly got it, she must be disappointed !) Come on Amélie, go for it ! And I hope she won't be too tired in Dubai, because if she reaches the N°1 place next week, nobody will be able to say that she's the best only since the best players are injured !!! ALLEEEEEEEEEEEEZ !!!!

My way of thinking with Amelie, is she is just obliterating her opponents and they are just dropping off the draw like flies....not because the others are in bad shape but that they all have to play so much better than her at the moment.... I think that she really deserves this... congratulations
