Basically it means " they broke up". yes, it does , they also asked not to discuss it with the media, they have their personal reasons to break up , it's a private matter and they are not gonna go into the gossip that will appear abt it |

Private reasons forced the couple to end their relation. Logically this means there is no question anymore of a potential marriage. Kim and Lleyton want to state that, just like any other couple whose relationship just ended, they don’t want to communicate with the media about their split, because it’s a private matter. Both of them dissociate themselves from gossip that will appear. |

And this is what Eurosport says:  Belgium's Kim Clijsters's romance with Australian Lleyton Hewitt is over and they will not be getting married in February as planned. "Kim Clijsters and Lleyton Hewitt have jointly decided to put an end to their relationship for private reasons," Clijsters said on her official website. The pair got engaged in December 2003, and last month Clijsters said she was planning a fairy-tale wedding in a Belgian chateau. The world number 10 said she and Hewitt, 23, did not wish to elaborate on the reason for their split. "Both of us distance ourselves from the malicious gossip which inevitably surfaces in this kind of situation," she added Clijsters, 21, has been plagued with injuries over the past year, and is out for the rest of the season after suffering a wrist injury at the Belgian Open earlier this month. World number three Hewitt withdrew from this week's Madrid Masters before the start of the tournament. Hewitt first invited Clijsters out in late 2000 to a party for fellow Australian Pat Rafter and they got engaged after a romantic boat trip around Sydney Harbour. A marriage between the pair would have followed in the footsteps of former world number ones Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi, who married in 2001 and have two children.  |

Aw kimmy n lleyton broken up wow never would've expected it, especially not so close to the wedding! and cos there were no rumours that things were going badly..owkeej..might have been plenty..but than they probably totally passed me by...not like i'm doing my best to keep up to date on their relationship  but anyway.....aw! |

man...that is just so sad...i liked them as a couple.. they looked really nice and sweet together...they even almost look like each other...  i hope they patch things up and get back together and go through with the february wedding... |

This just hit me like a big yellow school bus. I thought that they would always be together. Really sad news. Maybe they'll realize how much they miss each other and get back together.
A British Newspaper (I think) reported that Kim called up Lleyton and ended the relationship. Lleyton was stunned.
But then it's probably gossip.

Clijsters rang Hewitt on Thursday night to end their relationship without giving a reason, but posted a brief statement on her website. Hewitt, holidaying in the Northern Territory with close friend and Adelaide Football Club premiership hero Andrew McLeod, is understood to be bewildered and devastated." From news.com.au, quoting one of Lleyton's friends: "He's angry, embarrassed, devastated, distraught -- all of that stuff. He's been kicked in the guts and he's been kicked in the guts internationally and embarrassingly. He had a few warning signs but when it came it came as a huge shock. There were some signs she might have cold feet about the wedding after the US Open but then he thought everything was OK."... |
