Lena - WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jankovic Yanks Third Seed in a Row
Elena Dementieva dropped every one of her service games Tuesday in an overwhelming loss to Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 6-1.
From the start, Dementieva struggled with Jankovic's domineering groundstrokes and would go on to commit more than twice as many unforced errors as the Serbian.
It was quite a change from the last time the two met at Los Angeles, where they fought through three competitive sets before Dementieva emerged victorious. That win propelled the Russian back into the top 5 for the first time all year.
Dementieva managed some breaks against Jankovic, but the Russian’s notoriously flimsy serve took away any leverage she might have had in the match.
The Russian nearly got a service game on the board in the second set when the chair umpire overruled an out call on the left sideline and called the game for Dementieva. But Jankovic challenged that call and was correct. Dementieva’s ball was out and she went on to lose the game.
The most competitive game was the very last one in of the match with Jankovic serving at 5-1.
Dementieva saved three match points, coming back from 0-40 to even the score at deuce. Jankovic challenged an out call on her next match point, but was proved wrong by the official review, and play continued. Dementieva was at the mercy of the judges, having used up her two challenges earlier in the set.
All together, the two would hammer their way through six deuce points filled with long, exhausting rallies before Jankovic was finally able to close out the match.
The 21-year-old Serbian has vastly improved her results this season. After exiting the Australian Open in the second round to start the year, she continued to improve each Grand Slam performance by at least one round. She made it to the third round at Roland Garros, the Round of 16 at Wimbledon, and now at the US Open makes the leap into the semifinals, her best Slam performance to date.
She’ll try to extend the streak against the winner of Tuesday night’s anticipated match up between Justine Henin-Hardenne and Lindsay Davenport.

Dementieva withdraws through injury
Elena Dementieva added her name to the long list of injured casualties at the Stuttgart Grand Prix on Friday when she withdrew with a left thigh muscle injury.
The third seeded Russian had been scheduled to play Swiss fifth seed Patty Schnyder for a place in the semi-finals.
Dementieva had cramped badly during a three-hour battle against Katarina Srebotnik on Wednesday and said she had failed to regain her fitness.
"I got the injury during the match from the cramping and the day off didn't help me at all. In fact, I feel even worse today," said Dementieva. "I was trying to do everything possible to play but it didn't work."
