USA Pair Look Good in Doubles THE powerful American doubles combination of Lisa Raymond and Taylor Dent notched an impressive first-up victory in the $1-million ITF mixed teams championship when they downed newcomers Serbia & Montenegro two rubbers to one at Perth’s Burswood Dome.
After the singles had been split, with Serbia’s rising young star Ana Ivanovic beating Raymond and Dent levelling up with a similarly-impressive win over Novak Djokovic, the mixed doubles went USA’s way,7-6 (7/3), 6-2.
The singles saw two impressive sides to two teams of Hopman Cup newcomers, with Ivanovic, who has risen to 16 in the world, playing well to lead 6-2 and 4-1 against Raymond, with two services for the match. But she faltered a little with nerves in her first match before composing herself to claim the second set 6-4

DUTCH DUO SHOCK ARGENTINA
The Netherlands pulled off a surprise 2-1 win over Argentina in Group B of the Hopman Cup.
Victories for Michaela Krajicek and Peter Wessels in their singles matches against Gisela Dulko and Gaston Gaudio gave them an unassailable lead.
And although the Dutch duo went down in three sets during the doubles, it did not take the shine off an unexpected triumph.
Krajicek, the 16-year-old step sister of former Wimbledon champion Richard, downed world number 26 Dulko 6-4 6-2 in the first match.
An even bigger shock occurred in the men's singles where world number 144 Wessels took the scalp of former French Open champion Gaudio 6-2 7-6 (7-5).
“I served unbelievably well today and that was the key today,” said Wessels.
“ lot of players are a little but rusty at the beginning of the year and Gaston was not playing his best tennis, but on the other hand I played good.
“I had to attack the net a lot as Gaston was better from the back of the court and I had to accept that.”
Dulko and Gaudio claimed a consolation 4-6 6-3 7-6 (10-5) win in the doubles.

yuri whatshisname lost comprhensively to taylor dent. dent made him look like he was two hundred or so ranked below him. and svetlana won easily after getting over a nervous start. doubles is underway but the usa team would have to be huge favourites as the russian bloke seems to have an inability to serve well. but then svetlana is good at doubles - as is raymond and dent is learning-too fast it would seem.
sweeden lost their tie to serbia i think. johannson won, serbia got mixed doubles and i am pretty sure that the serbian girl won but i am not sure...

[glow=red,2,300] Americans Chase Spot in Cup Final[/glow] THE American duo of doubles expert Lisa Raymond and big-serving Taylor Dent is looming as an early favourite to reach the Final of this year’s $1-million ITF Hyundai Hopman Cup international teams championship at Perth’s Burswood Dome. The USA pair combined to beat Russia two rubbers to one in today’s round-robin session, with Taylor Dent downing Yuri Schukin 6-2, 6-0 to level the singles after US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova had given her country the first rubber with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Schukin, the replacement for the injured pair of Marat Safin and then Teimuraz Gabashvili, worked hard against Dent, but with Cup record-breaking serves in the 238km/h range, the power was simply awesome.

[glow=red,2,300]Russia Back in the Cup Final Race[/glow] RUSSIA made a surprise return to join the race for a place in the Final of the $1-million Hyundai Hopman Cup international mixed teams tennis tournament being played at the Burswood Dome.
In a dramatic doubles decider that stretched late into the night, Russian pair Svetlana Kuznetsova and replacement player Yuri Schukin pulled off an upset by beating Swedish pair Thomas Johansson and Sofia Arvidsson, 6-3, 7-5.
Earlier, Kuznetsova, the US Open singles champion, showed some of her best early-season form with a hard-earned win over Arvidsson, 7-6, 6-4, with the tie-breaker going seven points to three. It was the Russian’s serving advantage with eight aces to one and her powerful receiving that earned seven service breaks from 12 chances that made the difference.
