Nadal into Marseille semi-finals Nadal was in buoyant form Top seed Rafael Nadal beat Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu 7-5 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Marseille Open. The 19-year-old, returning from a four-month lay-off with a foot injury, started to show some of his best form. "I played well on the important points and I served well when it was needed," said the French Open champion. "I am feeling better with every match." Nadal will now meet another Frenchman, Arnaud Clement, who beat compatriot Fabrice Santoro 7-5 4-6 7-6 on Friday. The other semi-final will pit Croatian Mario Ancic, a 7-6 3-6 6-3 winner over compatriot and second seed Ivan Ljubicic, against Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean, who beat Russia's Yevgeny Korolev 7-6 6-3. Ancic said: "It's always tough to play a friend but apart from that, I consider Ivan to be probably the best player, behind Federer, since the indoor season last year. "It's a great win and great for my confidence."

Clement win ends Nadal comeback
Rafael Nadal's return from a four-month lay-off with a foot injury ended at the semi-final stage as he went down to Arnaud Clement in the Marseille Open. The 19-year-old Spaniard and top seed showed something like his best form in the opening set to come through 6-2.
But Belgian Clement dug deep in the second to win 6-3 and level the tie.
French Open champion Nadal had the chance to serve for the match at 5-4, but Clement won three straight games to see the set out 7-5 for a final spot
