Vodafone Arena - Women's Singles - 4th Round Match Statistics Draws Virginia Ruano Pascual ESP 0 3 Justine Henin-Hardenne BEL (8) 6 6 Henin - Hardenne has defeated Pascual 6-0, 3-6 Henin-Hardenne Thumps Ruano Pascual Sunday, 22 January, 2006 by Bren O'Brien 2004 Australian Open champion Justine Henin-Hardenne has marched into the final eight of Australian Open 2006 with a 6-0 6-3 win over unseeded Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual. Henin-Hardenne was in devastating touch from the outset, breaking Ruano Pascual in the very first game and racing through the set in just 26 minutes, conceding just 11 points, despite a first serve percentage of 35. While the Spaniard was more competitive in the second set - which was 20 minutes longer than the first - she was broken in the third game. She had two chances on break point in the sixth game, but failed to convert and bowed out when the Belgian broke her to love in the ninth game Henin-Hardenne, seeded No.8, now plays No.1 seed Lindsay Davenport, who saw off the challenge of Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2 6-4. Henin-Hardenne had 28 winners, Ruano Pascual one • Ruano Pascual had a first service percentage of 80, but won just 41 percent of those points • Henin-Hardenne won 62 points, Ruano Pascual 37 • It's the second time Henin-Hardenne has beaten Ruano Pascual at the Australian Open - the other time was in the 2003 quarter-finals

Top Trio Reach Quarters by Andrew Wu Sunday, 22 January, 2006
American top seed Lindsay Davenport, Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne and Russian Nadia Petrova have all enjoyed straight sets victories on Day Seven to move into the quarter-finals of Australian Open 2006.
With the Extreme Heat Policy enforced for the third day in a row at Melbourne Park, No.6 seed Petrova was the first to advance, trouncing compatriot Elena Vesnina 6-3 6-1 under the roof at Rod Laver Arena.
Petrova dealt with the pressure of the fourth-round match far better than her 19-year-old opponent, who was playing in her maiden Grand Slam, making just 13 unforced errors to Vesnina's 35.
"Today, Nadia, she showed me how I need to play in the future. It's a good lesson for me," Vesnina said of her countrywoman.
"But I did so many unforced errors today, so it's impossible to win if you made so many errors."
Petrova has conceded just 15 games on her way to the quarter-finals but feels that she is now ready to be tested.
"I can't say I played a very dangerous opponent yet till now. But I've showed it doesn't matter who's on the other side, and I still showed my tennis and been winning quite easily in two sets," said Petrova, who will face either Maria Sharapova or Daniel Hantuchova in the next round.
"I'm quite happy the way every game went, and I'm just looking forward to make another step forward and play a top 10 player."
Davenport breezed through the first set in her 6-2 6-4 triumph over 2004 US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova before the Russian put up a bigger fight in the second.
After breaking twice to race to a 3-0 lead in the second, Kuznetsova peeled off the next four games before Davenport steadied and won the next three to advance to the final eight.
Waiting for her will be Henin-Hardenne, the No.8 seed winning her 11th consecutive match at Melbourne Park when she thrashed unseeded Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-0 6-3.
Henin-Hardenne, who was unable to defend her 2004 crown at Melbourne Park last year, dominated the match, firing 28 winners to Ruano Pascual's one as she outclassed the world No.104.

I just hate this !!! Can't watch the AO, because neither France nor Belgium brodcast it on the channels I have. Even without Marat, it looks quite interesting there in Australia, and I must admit I'm really proud of French people who are playing there - Santoro in quarters WOW !!! -, and really impressed by the losses of Hewitt and Roddick, I thought we would find them in semis, as always ! I can't wait for the Federer-Haas match tomorrow
